1. Introduction

The industry of construction is divided into residential and non-residential (also referred to as commercial) sectors; the latter is more capital intensive hence generates a larger cash inflow and outflow (Deravi, 2017). Non-residential construction industry has been identified to have significant impact on local economies of designations where it is situated as it has been established that there exists a strong relationship between implementation of construction projects and state of the local economy that the construction project is being executed (Department of Business Innovation & Skills, 2013). In other words, construction projects can be regarded as “boosters” of economies due to the value chain of income generation that it facilitates across different sectors via direct, indirect and induced impacts. These impacts would be briefly discussed;
 Direct Impacts: These are the additional expenditures and demand that are triggered by the day to day spending due to execution of non-residential construction projects.
 Indirect Impacts: These impacts are economic impacts induced due to increased business operations of organisations or entities that are directly impacted by implementation of non-residential construction projects.
 Induced Impacts: In the case of indirect impacts, the effect is felt by entities or individuals that are beneficiaries of the spending of organisations affected by indirect impacts of execution of non-residential construction projects.
The impacts of construction project can be positively or negatively inclined. The positivities associated with execution of construction projects include but are not limited to creation of employment, growth in Gross Domestic Project (GDP), transportation, energy generation and distribution, hospitality and other professional and support services sectors. For example, it is reported that a over 3000 jobs are created whenever 1000 jobs are made available in the construction industry (Civil Engineering Contractors Association, 2013). Also, the massive economic impact of the construction industry on local economies is highlighted in the fact that over 2.4 million jobs (this equals 7% of total jobs generated) were created in the UK in second quarter of 2019 (this equals 6.6% of the total employment capacity in the country) while contributing the sum of 117 billion pounds to the economy (this equals 6% of the total generated) (Rhodes, 2019). Therefore, it becomes evident the critical role played by construction sector in development of nations’ economies
