The Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke has charged the 2023 Batch B Stream 1 Corps Members deployed to Osun State and those dislodged from Lagos State to make the Nigerian economy bigger and stronger by embracing the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development program of the NYSC.

Adeleke implored the members to think of what they can produce rather than what they can consume. He urged them to develop the mindset of an entrepreneur seeking to find solutions to human needs and problems.

Adeleke, who was represented by the Deputy Governor of the State, Prince Kola Adewusi at the Swearing-in and Official Opening Ceremony of the Batch at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede on Friday, assured the Corps Members of the continued support and commitment of the Government to the welfare and security of the members. He urged them, therefore, not to seek relocation outside the State but to settle down int the State as the people of the State are known for their hospitality and love.

Sen. Adeleke commended the Management of the Scheme for being frontiers for peace, unity and development in the country. He acknowledged the giant strides made by the Scheme in the areas of health, education, infrastructure and agriculture in the Country and called on all to support the NYSC's programmes and initiatives.

He urged the 2150 Corps Members to see their call to Service as a selfless and patriotic one geared towards nation building.

The Governor further called on the newly inducted members to be law abiding and stay true to the Pledge and Oath they had sworn to before the Chief Judge of the State.

Earlier, the State Coordinator, Mr Agbor Ndoma Obim, in his introductory speech, appreciated the Governor for making good his promises to the Scheme. He appreciated him for renovating camp facilities - reroofing the pavilion, painting the pavilion, camp office, hostels, among others.

Agbor intimated that a total of 2150 prospective Corps Members were deployed to the State comprising 1700 Osun Corps Members and 450 dislodged from Lagos State for the Orientation Course.

The State Coordinator hinted on the importance of the Orientation Course to the achievement of the objectives of the Scheme. According to him, the program was designed to equip Corps Members for the challenges of the service year and to further familiarise them with their State of deployment and the ideals of the NYSC.

He called on the Corps Members to sustain the relevance of the NYSC through hard work, patriotic service and community development service as their predecessors have done. He assured them that the Scheme is committed to rewarding excellence and outstanding service, urging them to therefore, face the service year with fervour and patriotism.

On a final note, he charged them to embrace opportunities provided by the Scheme to become self reliant, disciplined and productive.

The National Pledge and NYSC Oath of Allegiance was administered by Hon. Justice Zakariyah Oyejide Falola who represented the Chief Judge of the State. Also, the Ceremony had in attendance the Director, NYSC Southwest Area, Mr Amusan Oluwole Julius, Service Chiefs and other dignitaries.

The event also featured a thug of war and cultural dance put together to entertain guests.
