The drink can be sold in cans and even exported to generate revenue for the government and can also be an alternative to other brands

They don't know that governments sometimes increase tax on a particular product to indirectly discourage its consumption... Now if that's what affected the price of the raw material and these sellers decided to go on strike, it means the government eventually succeeded
the raw materials are maize and guinea corn, which are staple food. Why will govt tax corn and guinea corn for hell's sake.

You too hike the price for the liquor undecided

Moreover, what would your governor do? Bring down the cost of grain in your state? Or subsidize burkutu for you?

Ironically this people didn't even protest because the price of grain which they also use for food went up from 18k to 55k, burkutu is their problem?

NB: poster the price you quoted there are false.
drunkards and their zeal for alcohol is very complex.

Translates to less drunkards on Taraba streets.

This should be a cause for celebration and not for a strike.
Re: Local Liquor Sellers Embark On Two-Week Strike In Taraba State by grandstar(m): 2:29pm On Jul 17, 2023
The price increases make no sense.

A bag of guinea corn is 22,000/kg. Usually, a trailer carries 600 bags. That is 13,200,000 worth of guinea. Let us assume to achieve this price , transport cost of a trailer was 1m

Now the price of oil triples in price. The lorry now decides to charge 3m. That is an extra 2m.

So, 13,200,000 + 2,000,000 = 15,200,000

15,200,000 / 600 = N25,333

So, if the price of petrol triples, the price per kg of guinea corn shouldn't be more than 25,333. Or at worst 28,000.

I can see some funny comments but as someone who understands the economic significance of burukutu I can say that their agitation is not out of place.
What is our national grain reserve capacity?why is the government not engaging in extension works to improve grain yield?the economic power of these women is about to be diminished and them thrown into abject poverty if the government fails to act appropriately by widening the scope of agric policy formulation, implementation and sustainability.
