We can’t release Tinubu’s criminal cases, immigration records till 2026 due to ‘unusual circumstances’, FBI, State Department say The agencies have been summoned to appear in court to show course why records relating to a Nigerian president were deemed unusual to be released to the public. TOSIN AJUWON The U.S. State Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation cited ‘unusual circumstances’ for denying to release the records to the public. Following a freedom of information request, the U.S. authorities said even if they were to release the records, it would be at least until January 2026 before they could do so.https://gazettengr.com/we-cant-release-tinubus-criminal-cases-immigration-records-till-2026-due-to-unusual-circumstances-fbi-state-department-say/?utm_source=operamini&utm_medium=feednews&utm_campaign=operamini_feednews |

Here's what I think Tinubu was not convicted of any crime, but he entered into a plea bargaining agreement with the US government. That was why he forfeited $460k. Therefore, the agreement was reached based on mutual respect for both the US government and Tinubu (represented by his counsel). If they release the details of that deal, they are breaching the agreement and could be sued by Tinubu's counsel. So, I don't see them releasing the records even in the so-called January 2026. |
