The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, has said the purchase of fuel has reduced by 50 percent.

IPMAN’s Chairman in Enugu depot, Chinedu Anyaso, blamed the reduction on the hike of the pump price of fuel.

Lamenting that the negative situation has affected marketers, Anyaso urged the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal government to reduce the pump price of fuel.

NAN reports that he warned that most marketers might shut down, a situation that may lead to the collapse of the downstream sector.

According to Anyaso: “Marketers are facing an existential challenge due to low profits as a result of reduced sales affecting their abilities to meet their operational costs and obligations with banks.

“Marketers are worse affected by this policy of subsidy removal, profitability has reduced because average sales have reduced by about 50 per cent.

“We appeal to the Federal Government to save downstream operations from collapsing by working on reduction in pump prices.”

The market have been deregulated. Tinubu do not have the power to decide the price of fuel for filling stations owner.

What's wrong with IPMAN, as a body, must they wait for the president to r duce pump price, or is this fake news...the market is no more regulated. Does the president still have powers to call for abitrary fuel price reduction?

Subsidy is gone.

They need to adapt their business expectations to that reality.

Car owners are in severe shock right now.

Reduce staff, close some pumps, and hopefully demand increases in the coming months.

More people are converting to lng for generators. I think that is also contributing to the drop in fuel usage. If it is then it's a good sign

In about 6months time a lot of petrol station will close down for the following reasons :

1. Very low margin; imagine buying a product for 498 at the depot and selling it at 510. Making about 12 Naira from 498. Some bad marketers even manipulate their meter to meet up with NNPC price. While some sincere once’s put it as it is . Unfortunately the sincere ones don’t see patronage because people will say price is high.

2. Low demand ; the demand for the product has dropped by over 60 to 70 percent . You now see people come in just to buy 10liters and go. Unlike early this year when an average person buys 30liters .

3. With the high interest bank charge on loans there is no way you can service the loan with such low profit margin especially because you have running cost to Cather for .

I wish government will do something about this like opening a special forex window for petrol import . If not a lot of businesses will go down.

When they were feeding large on people's money they never remember government to decrease the profits. Funny thing about this deregulation is that, if the so called market forces push the price up, their old stocks will receive immediate attention for upward price reviews, but when the international market prices drop, and the dollar exchange is stable, they will act as nothing happens, still selling at old price, without reducing it. They will claim they are waiting for the directives.
Even if Tinubu is under serious, catalytic pressure, he won't bow cos all these things have been long plan.
Everyone is in for it but I believe if done well, it may turn around for better within few years.
The only advice I will advise the government is to speed up to review or give authorization for indigenous individuals that want to build modular refineries in less than 30 months and are serious about it.

And government can also sell crude oils to them at a very subsidized prices.
All of them, I mean those politicians both active and retired, no matter the party involved have stolen this country dry and borrowed again and looted majority of that too.

Let me emphasize on my point as a solution that I think:
government should avoid spending a dime on those old refineries again. They should sell them off to foreigners if necessary and can work it out . It's an avenue to steal from government in the name of repairing.
I will advise government to encourage individual locals and indigenes that are very serious and have the capacity to merge to take up the challenges of the modular refineries. Their complaints has been, it has to be deregulated and Forex window unified. That one fulfilled now. What next.

So let's see their next excuses now. Anyone not serious, their licence should be withdrawn. on an average, it takes less than 30 months to build a working modular refiniries and should be encouraged more in states where there are proximity to crude oil. so that government can subsidize the crude oil , sell it to them for the maintime, automate the distribution to avoid smuggling, then espect the price to come down drastically. All thes likely be achieved in 4 years.
I believe that is what tinubu government trying to do with time because he has been promoting modular refiniries through osinbajo then but it went down the drain by buhari cabals and their policies.
with this, the money will be circulating within the economy and other foreigners that have similar refiniries will not be taking all the money and profits outside the country..
If it works, sub saharan regions will also have a taste of competitive price of fuels and will help nigeria grow well.
Situation nigerians find themselves now ia between the devil and the deep blue sea.
Government is trying to prevent what is happening in srilanka, venezuela, argentina and lebanon.
Before we get to half of what they are passing through as they ran out of foreign reserves and no one ready to bail them out, its better we face a regretable reality.

They have looted nigeria dry but we must move forward now because if not, if it goes out of hands, its the masses that will still suffer and kill themselves not them.

Ipman should look for means to attain fuel at cheaper rate so people can leave Gas that is much cheaper for fuel.
Abeg where them dey convert car from fuel to gas for this Abuja?
The smart folks are already looking for alternatives while the political minions are playing the Hardship script of evil marketers hoarding this products.
Sane people who hoarded the price of diesel until independent marketers were allowed to go into business.

funny enough, our political opposition minions are being hypocritical about it despite the fact they all agreed to do it during campaign. Infact, they are at the fore front of making mockery of what they agreed to make.
As you said, enemies of Nigeria has started showing their face and the ipob wing turn Labour Party didn't surprise us as they are at the fore front of this.

IPMAN should goan sit down. There is absolute no going back on subsidy removal and total deregulation of the downstream sector.

Their dubious marketers should go and farm if they are not marking much gain from petroleum.

There is huge gain in agriculture, they can also sell their agricultural products to neighboring countries for more gains.
