People have been making predictions about apocalyptic events leading to the extinction of humanity and the destruction of the universe for a very long time, which is quite amusing.
However, none of these apocalyptic prophecies, with specific due dates, have actually come true till now. The interesting part is that even when these predictions fail, the believers in such prophecies often come up with new excuses and shift the event to another date.

Most of these Doomsayers belong to Abrahamaic religions, with Christianity being the most prevalent among them.
As part of Dispensational Theology, the rapture doctrine typically holds that the antichrist will rise to power on earth, leading to a seven-year period of hell-on-earth and …..

“In an article published in Skeptical Inquirer, psychologist Matthew J. Sharps and his colleagues analyze and dissect the psychology of True Believers and their behavior after the predicted apocalypse fails to happen.
Using the 2012 Mayan apocalypse prophecy as an example, and citing several other similar cases, Sharps contributes four psychological factors that compel these people to continue their belief (or even stronger belief) despite the conflicted reality.

1. Subclinical dissociative tendencies: While not suffering from mental illness, people with subclinical dissociative tendencies have a higher inclination to experience disconnection with immediate physical reality and propensity to see highly improbable things with enhanced credulity. Such subclinical dissociation is usually associated with paranormal thinking……”

The roots of Adventism can be traced back to the teachings of the Baptist preacher William Miller. He predicted that Christ would return on 21 March 1844, but when this did not happen, the Millerites recalculated the date to 22 October of the same year, attributing their error to a misinterpretation of Scripture. This adjustment led to the event known as the Great Disappointment.

Chuck Smith, the founder of the Calvary Chapel system, authored the book "End Times" in 1979.

Joseph Smith, the founder of the Mormon faith, made numerous prophecies during his lifetime, many of which are recorded in the sacred texts of the Mormon faith. These predictions covered various topics, including the Civil War, the second coming of Jesus, and other less significant events. Supporters of the church point to fulfilled prophecies, while critics cite examples that they believe did not come true.

The founder of the Worldwide Church of God, Herbert W. Armstrong, told members of his church that the rapture would take place in 1936, and that only they would be saved. After the prophecy failed, he changed the date three more times.

Thomas Brightman, considered one of the fathers of Presbyterianism in England, predicted that between 1650 and 1695, there would be the conversion of many Jews and a revival of their nation in Palestine, the downfall of the Papacy, and the marriage of the Lamb and his wife.
Christopher Love, another historical figure, predicted that Babylon would fall in 1758, God's anger against the wicked would be demonstrated in 1759, and a worldwide earthquake would occur in 1763.

Charles Taze Russell, the founder of the Bible Student movement, asserted that the battle of the great day of God Almighty was already in progress, dating from October 1874, and that the definite date for its close was marked in Scripture as October 1914.

Why are some Christians so eager for destruction?

Another thread on the fear of God's Coming! grin

Ah! God has definitely moved closer and the devils are screaming hotly and loudly. grin

Thank you Lord that you would soon be here and the devils we see, we shall see them all taking to their eternal punishment.

Let them keep waiting for the doomsday. 1000 years from now, the doomsday predictions will still go on.

FYI, no Jesus is coming again, rather, more advanced technology would be invented.

Heaven and hell are only myths.

To my naija folks, Because Nigeria is not favorable and hard to live in NOW, does not mean it is a sign of End Times.
We should hold our Leaders Accountable but when you have some passive people that thinks someone will come to save them one day, the tasks get harder lol

Nothing like rapture, Nothing like christ second coming, Nothing like God ending the world will ever happen. Not today, tomorrow, NEVER .

People who saw world war 1, world war 2, thought the world would end. Has it? Those who will live to see world war 3 will say the same but their expectations will lead to utter disappointment.

A generation will come and that generation will leave but the earth will remain FOREVER!

These doomsday sayers as you call them are probably right.

Right in the sense that no civilization lasts forever. Time will either finish us all, or we find ourselves being dealt with by the aliens this guys worship... grin .
But I'm confident that our current civilization has not gotten to its peak not to talk of dwindling, we're still on the upward flow. Unless the aliens they always pray to cut the days short.. shocked . Or man could foolishly trigger a global evolution in a direction that the Laws/Nature/Existence would make sure man as we know it is completely eradicated.... And completely replaced.... cry

Even at that, this daddy would be long dead before then.... cry

The bible says the earth will remain forever even after generations of civilization has come and gone. Don't know, I personally don't agree anything can remain forever except the Almighty Ever-Present Energy .... undecided

It's all a huge what ifs at the end of it all, with zero certainly...smh
