A Professor of Government Studies, Professor Jideofor Adibe, has insinuated that there is no merit in the student loan scheme that was signed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu; as he maintained that the scheme is not implementable, hence, the 10th National Assembly should include reviewing the scheme in its agenda.

Professor Adibe had said, “Part of the agenda could be having a second look at that student loan scheme because it’s not implementable.”

Professor Adibe, who spoke during an interview on Sunrise Daily, a Channels Television programme, argued that the student loan bill that was signed by President Tinubu is not implementable. According to him, the bill was introduced by the past National Assembly without careful consideration, hence, the reason why it would not be implementable. He went further to express possibility that the bill was signed to hike up tuition fee for higher institutions.

Adibe defended his argument by maintaining that the requirements for eligiblity might not be feasible for many households in the country. He suggested that the 10th National Assembly could consider reviewing the bill to allow for better service delivery.

Adibe also reviewed some of the policies of President Tinubu, as he noted that economic crisis in the country is not just as a result of fuel subsidy removal, but as a result of other steps that have been taken without careful considerations. He mentioned that unifying exchange rates without considering what Nigeria has to offer to the foreign market would do the country no good.

This is the perspective with which I view the student loan by wondering why most people don't like to pay their rent until they are embarrassed.
It is sheer wickedness by most tenants.

When you do the calculation by dividing your rent by numbers of days in a year you will be very surprised how so cheap rents are compared to the amount you spend on USELESS things daily.

If you are paying for example #30,000 a year, that is just #82 a day not up to a hundred. If you are paying #150,000 a year that is #410 per day. If #500,000 per year, that is #1370 per day. If #1,000,000 per year, that is only #2,720 daily.

People spend this on a daily basis on things they can't even account for because it is chicken change. grin

You will find a person who makes thousands of Naira a day but will still be dragging with their landlord to pay their rent of #30,000 which is just #82 per day.

That is why the main challenge about the student loan is the mindset of many who already have the intention that they will not pay even if the have the best jobs on earth.

How do you explain why so many who the government of Nigeria both on State level and Federal sponsor them abroad to go study with the agreement that they will pay back not in cash but service to the nation by coming back to the country and investment their knowledge and experience while being paid for their service to the nation. Majority do not come back home, they navigate their way afterwards and far away from the country that gave them such opportunity to grow.

Paying back the student loan is very easy if you really intend to but just like the rents, majority will not want to pay back even if the have best of jobs.

When we put up these arguments on this very platform, nairaland resident corn addicts labelled us as pained Igbos.

What government in its right senses floats a currency you don't even have to meet up demand, cannot attract in the form of direct foreign investments and when you cannot produce even the toothpick that your citizens use. 95percent of our consumables are predicated on imports which are wholely dependent on foreign currencies that are not even available.

Tomorrow they'll say the dusty looking Iragbiji masquerade is an economic maestro!

The bill is another financial enslavement of the students by the government which is a policy of "...take away their purchasing power" as the drug baron once advocated.

Selfish professors that went on strike for almost a year but pretend that they care about their students. They only care about their paychecks.
