The nation's federal universities, according to the presidency, continue to be tuition-free.

Recently, some federal universities and unity schools announced an increase in tuition costs for new and returning students.

With the rising inflation and skyrocketing cost of living brought on by some of the federal government's recent economic policies, the development sparked outrage on social media platforms.

Dele Alake, President Bola Tinubu's special adviser on special duties, communications, and strategy, claimed in a statement on Wednesday that some universities' increases in tuition are "discretionary charges for hostel accommodation, registration, laboratory, and other charges." They do not constitute tuition.

The Federal Government had raised tuition rates at the nation's federal universities, according to numerous news outlets earlier this week. These stories are false and untrue, the statement claims.

We are aware that some universities recently announced an increase in the amount that students must pay for various fees.

"However, the fact still stands—and we have confirmed it—that these are optional fees levied by each university for things like dormitory lodging, registration, lab fees, and other expenses. The fees are not tuition.

"Authorities of these universities even sufficiently stated this fact when describing the justification for these new fees. To clear up any confusion, federal universities in Nigeria continue to be tuition-free.

"President Bola Ahmed Tinubu continues to be dedicated to keeping his promise to make sure that every Nigerian has access to high-quality tertiary education, regardless of their parents' economic circumstances.

Even tho, Tinubu doesn't promise us this, but e still do because of the love he has every citizen of Nigeria.

When I voted Tinubu, I knew I don't do mistake.

Now that tuition fee is free, will the people who are always eager to blame Government for their misfortune see that Tinubu is cooking something good behind the camera.

Now our education is going to be standby, the Children of poor will now be recieving high quality education.

Tuition has always been free in Federal Universities. School Fees is different from Tuition fees. When you see the breakdown of your school, you'd know tuition has been free or very low

Are you saying that accomodation is even part of the 100k+ bill for the simplest course to be studied in Unilag? Cos I went through their bills and did not see anything like accomodation in it. Just keep deceiving yourselves by shouting "tuition-free" up and down, thereby deceiving ignorant people up and down.

You are either one of the obvious ignorant followers or a paid agent. How can children of the poor receive high quality education if they can't pay the exorbitant school fees that federal schools - both secondary and tertiary - are now demanding?

When I hear tuition is free .I just laugh.
When to accept the admission in some schools is as high as 30k .is it not scam
,
Then you will start seeing things like
Accreditation fee -10k
Development fee- 15k
Laboratory fee 20k etc

Nigeria is just funny, same thing in politics.a senator will say his salary is 1million per month that he is not earning much.
But will receive quarterly allowance of 50 million or car allowance of 100 million.
