Who is the most badass person in history that no one knows about?

Bass Reeves, a name often forgotten in history, emerges as one of the most extraordinary and fearless individuals to have walked the American West. Born a slave in 1838 in Arkansas, he defied the chains of oppression and managed to escape during the Civil War, finding refuge in Indian Territory, now known as Oklahoma. In 1875, Reeves made history by becoming the first African American to be appointed as a deputy U.S. marshal west of the Mississippi River, embarking on a trailblazing journey as a lawman.

Reeves’ reputation for audacity and unparalleled marksmanship skills spread far and wide. Tales of his prowess circulated, recounting his ability to effortlessly shoot the head off a running squirrel, and his vigilant stance was marked by the ever-present sight of two pistols—one holstered on his hip, the other firmly seated on his shoulder. His ingenuity knew no bounds, as he skillfully donned disguises to capture elusive outlaws that had evaded other lawmen.

Throughout his illustrious career, Reeves apprehended over 3,000 felons and was forced to defend himself on at least 14 occasions, where he confronted and defeated lawbreakers with an unyielding determination to uphold justice. Despite the perils he faced daily, Reeves remained resolute in his mission, guided by an unwavering commitment to equality and fairness. Neither his race nor the deep-rooted prejudice of his time could deter him from fulfilling his duty.

Even though the sands of time have threatened to bury his legacy, Bass Reeves’ tale stands tall as a symbol of unwavering bravery and tenacity amidst adversity. His story serves as a poignant reminder that the true badass figures of history are sometimes those whose contributions have been overlooked or relegated to the shadows of oblivion.
