The grand commencement of the Nigerian Secondary Schools Flag Football League (NSSFFL) Season II tournament took place yesterday at the prestigious Akure Township stadium, setting the stage for an exhilarating series of events.

The opening ceremony, a spectacle of grandeur, was gracefully hosted by the esteemed National Association of Flag Football (NAFA) and wholeheartedly supported by the esteemed Ondo State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development. Distinguished dignitaries from the state graced the occasion, adding their aura to the momentous event.

Notable attendees included the venerable Head of Service, Ondo State, Pastor Kayode Olaniyi Ogundele, who represented the Secretary to the State Government, the esteemed Princess Oladunni Odu. Also present were the illustrious Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Engr. Razak Obe, the dedicated Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Bamidele Ologun, and the Chief Press Secretary to the Ondo State Governor, Mr. Richard Olabode, among other eminent personalities.

The stadium, teeming with enthusiastic spectators, was treated to a captivating opening ceremony that set the tone for the competitive spirit of the participating teams from Ondo, Lagos, Ogun, Abuja, Osun, Akwa Ibom, and Oyo State as they embarked on their quest for victory.

In a riveting encounter, the host team, Akure Sec boys, displayed remarkable prowess as they triumphed over Ikeja Senior Grammar School with a commanding 6-0 scoreline, igniting a roar of celebration among the fervent crowd.

The action continued with Keke Senior Grammar School of Lagos State facing a formidable challenge against African Church Grammar School, resulting in a 0-6 defeat for Keke Senior Gram. Meanwhile, Army Cantonment of Lagos State and African Church Grammar School of Ogun State battled fiercely to a thrilling 6-6 draw, showcasing their determination to claim victory.

Another remarkable match saw Govt Science Secondary School overpowering Damotak College with an astonishing 21-0 victory, leaving a lasting impression on the spectators.

In the fiercely competitive male category Group A, Govt Sec School has taken the lead with an impressive 3 points, closely followed by the formidable Akure Sec boys, also securing 3 points in the standings. Notably, Ikeja Senior Grammar School and Olubadan High are still seeking their first points in the tournament after facing initial setbacks in their opening games.

With the tournament in full swing, it promises to be a feast of exceptional skills, sportsmanship, and camaraderie as these talented young athletes strive to etch their names in the annals of flag football history.
