The trial of three former
governors Gbenga Daniel
of Ogun State, Otunba
Adebayo Alao-Akala (Oyo),
and Aliyu Akwe-Doma
(Nasarawa) by the
Economic and Financial
Crimes Commission (EFCC),
over alleged
misappropriation of a
total sum of N101 billion
could not commence
yesterday in their
respective state capitals as
scheduled.
EFCC’s failure to arraign
the trio may not be
unconnected with the
2011/2012 Legal Year
Conference going on in
Sokoto State and being
attended by the Federal
High Court judges. Daily
Sun also gathered that the
trial failed to hold because
the EFCC was yet to perfect
the charges against the
state chief executives as at
press time.
Daniel, who was arrested
in Lagos last Thursday, is
expected to give account
of how he allegedly
misappropriated a sum of
N58billion being funds
allegedly meant for
various projects in his
state, just as Alao-Akala
would explain how he
mismanaged N25billion of
Oyo State funds.
