BREAKING: Brighton and Hove Albion accept Liverpool’s bid for Moises Caicedo, and reports suggest a medical will soon follow
That’s right. The Moises Caicedo saga is finally coming to an end, and it’s ending with a bang. After months of negotiations between Chelsea and Brighton over the Ecuadorian midfielder, Liverpool has hijacked a deal at the death and will land the player in a British record transfer. The first to break the acceptance of the bid was Fabrizio Romano, who stated Liverpool’s accepted bid is £110m. Romano reports that if all goes to plan, Caicedo will become a Liverpool player tomorrow.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein backs this report by stating Chelsea’s highest bid was £100m, and thus Liverpool has won the race to sign Moises Caicedo. He is expected to have a medical on Friday to wrap up the deal before the beginning of Liverpool’s 23/24 Premier League campaign.

As The Top Flight had covered earlier, Liverpool became a late entrant into the race after Chelsea sent in a bid for Liverpool target Romeo Lavia. Brighton then slapped a deadline for Thursday night on the race to sign Moises Caicedo, hailing that the highest bidder would have their deal accepted. Slowly but surely, throughout the day, things flipped for Chelsea, and Liverpool looked the frontrunners to sign the player.

Chelsea are in a very tough spot now. Caicedo joining them seem inevitable, but now they are left with nothing to show for the long negotiations. They also had a strong interest in Manuel Ugarte earlier in the window but let PSG hijack that deal. Todd Boehly will have to move quickly if they want to get a midfielder in before August 13th, when Chelsea, funny enough, faces Liverpool in the Premier League. The most obvious option feels like them closing a deal with Southampton for Romeo Lavia, but it’s unknown what the Blues will do next.
