We always belittle the Northerners and term their education is backward or way of life.

And we often think, they can't achieve anything in Nigeria.

The profiles of those Northerners I have come across on their Mentorship program is just amazing.

It's seems there are the ones that even Japa with swags and free without spending, since majority of them left on scholarship or work sponsorship.

And not all those that Japa and turn to YouTubers or immigration experts.

The profiles of the mentor's is intimidating and could put education back in track in the North, since they offer free mentorship program to the Northern youth on scholarship, career, enterpreneurship and job opportunities abroad for free without any charges.

This is one thing I have respect for the North.

The mentorship network created by them, have about 500+ Engineers, Dr, etc whom are based around the world in top Organisations and offer their free services to their immediately communities in terms of needs.

Payments of medical bills
Education for some less privilege ones
Drafting of bills to assist legislators in their ward.
Clean access to water etc.

Unfortunately they hardly publicized it.

ABOUT AYMP

Arewa Youth Mentorship Program (AYMP) is an initiative created by concerned Northern Nigeria academics and entrepreneurs residing in different parts of the world to provide free career guidance, academic mentorship, leadership training, and entrepreneurship skills to our teeming young populace.

Some of the topics to be delivered would include exploration of scholarship opportunities globally, how to hunt job openings, and how to prepare for professional examinations like the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL), Graduate record exams (GRE) and Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT).

Under the diligent supervision of Professor Rabi’a Salihu Said of Physics Department, Bayero University, Kano, the program welcomes all interested persons willing to offer their contributions to human capacity development in the northern region. The speakers are typically renowned and accomplished individuals with a record of excellence in their respective fields.

The establishment of such an organization was prompted by the obvious multiple socioeconomic challenges facing the Northern region as well as inadequate awareness among our youths. We believe that investing in human capital is indeed central to the development of any society. The initiative is a form of giving-back strategy to our locality considering the enormous support given to us during our growth phase. It is, therefore, imperative to equip our younger ones too with the requisite tools needed to pursue excellence in all fields of endeavour.

The target populations are the recent graduates, undergraduate students, and secondary school students. The current undergraduate students, as well as graduates, would be trained on how to start their journeys to postgraduate programs and the necessary preparation mechanism to observe in order to secure opportunities both within and outside the country.

Furthermore, our accomplished entrepreneurs would guide them on how to build and sustain successful business ventures to reduce the existing over-dependence on government jobs. On the other hand, the secondary school students would be majorly introduced to carrier guidance and course selection process to harness their maximum potential and to reshape their traditional mentality of seeking only a few presumed juicy courses.

At present, the program is administered through online media. The main platform is on telegram with the name; “Arewa mentorship program”. All interested persons can join the public group and register their interest. However, it is in our plan to start the physical mentorship exercise.

The presentations are usually organized on a bi-weekly basis from the different areas of interest via either the telegram page or other online teleconferencing tools depending on the situation assessment, the information of which is normally shared on our social media pages prior to the presentation date. Moreover, all our past and upcoming presentations are documented on our YouTube page which can be accessed anytime.

We often share invaluable information regarding current scholarships, job openings, and skill acquisition opportunities on our social media pages (Facebook, Youtube, Instagram, Twitter) with the name “Arewa Youth Mentorship program”.

The more elaborate explanation about the program and the profile of our mentors can be found on our website and any interested person willing to join us as a mentor or mentee may kindly join

MEET SARKI ABBA - THE EXTRAORDINARY PROFESSOR OF UROLOGY AND PATHOLOGY

In 1984, 16-year old Abba, a student of Science Secondary School Dawakin Tofa, scored 9 distinctions (8 A1 and 1 A2) in his West African Senior School Certificate (WASCE) Exams. Examination authorities in Lagos didn't believe Abba made those excellent scores without cheating.

The authorities provided a car that took Abba to Lagos in order to retake the exam. Abba was made to take the 9 exams in a duration of 3 days, under heavy supervision.

After marking the rescheduled exams, he scored 9 A1 (the only ‘A2’ he had in English Language before the retake, became ‘A1’ resulted to 9 A1)

Faced with shock, the authorities apologized and instituted the National Merit Award. And, rightfully, Sarki Abba was the first recipient of the award.

In 1989/90 school session, 21, Sarki Abba graduated as OVERALL BEST Medical Student, and OVERALL BEST Graduating Student at ABU, Zaria— he was just 21. Sarki Abba went to the U.S.A where he completed his studies, worked and lived since then.

Sarki Abba is presently a Professor of Urology and Pathology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Chicago, USA. Also, MD, PhD, at the John T. Grayhack Professor of Urological Research.

Prof. Sarki Abba’s research program is focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms that drive cancer initiation, progression and recurrence with the ultimate goal of developing therapies that interfere with these processes. His work has particularly focused on Prostate Cancer.

As a gastroenterologist, Dr. Tanimu specializes in diagnosing and treating conditions involving the gastrointestinal tract. He helps people with problems related to the entire digestive process.

Dr. Tanimu advocates using the latest technologies, including endoscopic ultrasound for better imaging, to better plan the right choice of treatments.

“It’s always important to know exactly what you’re dealing with to help determine which types of treatments to offer,” he says.

This can help patients that don’t really need surgery avoid it, and for those that do need it, give their physician the ability to know exactly what they’re dealing with before performing surgery.

An avid soccer player, Dr. Tanimu also enjoys tennis, traveling and reading.

Dr. Tanimu is board-certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine. He went to medical school at Ahmadu Bello University in Nigeria. He completed a residency in internal medicine as well as a fellowship in gastroenterology at Columbia University, Harlem Hospital Center, New York. While there, Dr. Tanimu was named the most outstanding fellow at Harlem Hospital Center. He also has additional fellowship training in advanced endoscopic oncology from Moffitt Cancer Center in Florida.

I received my (MSc) in Control Systems Engineering under the supervision of Professor Peter J Fleming from the University of Sheffield, and a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Bradford in the United Kingdom under the supervision of Professor Irfan Awan and Professor Hassan Ugail. My work focused on developing AI and Machine Learning algorithms to control high-speed networks such as to avoid network traffic congestion, degraded network performance and network downtime for important Science Bigfile Transfers and experiments. My method led to minimizing network downtime, saving US department of Energy (DOE) costs, and freeing engineers to work on science experiments. Before then, during my Ph.D., my research contributed to the core network research and operations with my strong background in HPC and cloud, where I developed and built these infrastructures during my PhD (Bradstack).

I am a Berkeley Lab research SLAM 2019 award winner. In 2019 I was among six postdoctoral fellows from US National Labs invited to Washington DC to speak about their research to the Capitol Hill audience. I am a passionate science communicator.

I agree that Hausas are conservative in nature but full Europe is what I do not agree to, as there are way more Southern Nigerians in Europe than Northern Nigerians as a whole. When it comes to countries like Sudan, Morocco, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Hausas have their population.

I schooled in Cambridge and still live there, in my mixing up I have only come across 2 Hausas and a Kanuri lady (she graduated last month and now gone back to Nigeria) and they acknowledged they are far less in population in comparison to the Southern region.

You mean, Northerners are not smart right? Yet, na them dey rule over you for decades. They are also the only ones who can give your Biafra Independence.

Keep insulting the North online. While your Igbo leaders are all over the North, prostrating and showing loyalty to their Northern masters. grin grin

Nice one. Northerners are silent achievers. We don't make mouth, no chest beating. We just move.

Impressive profiles! Dear OP, the reason for this stereotype most times is because Northerners are mostly low key which is a good thing!
