Surprisingly, Afghanistan have been relatively peaceful since the beginning of this year - There has not been any bombing or suicide person attacking people. The attackers are now the people ruling.

And who kicked off the withdrawal...the Republicans under Trump. Haley was once permament rep to the UN then.

But the thing is Trump, and Biden were assured that the Afghan army could fight the Taliban on their own. After all they had had 20 years of training to get it right. And once the Americans left, the Afghan army capitulated.

There was nothing no one could do...unless Biden had decided to lkeep more troops in Afghanistan and turn it into a colony of the US, and rake the country with war.

The Taliban had mad respect for the Americans. The US toppled the Taliban government within 60 days if I am correct and brought democracy to the country. After a few years, the Taliban regrouped from their base in Pakistan and commenced a guerrilla war.

The Taliban is dominated by Pashtuns, an ethnic group found both in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The border between both countries is extremely porous. So, attacks could be launched from Pakistan in the morning and the insurgents go back to Pakistan the same day.

It is hard winning a guerrilla war. You are fighting a faceless enemy,

America made mistakes from the word go. The Taliban actually wanted a partnership with the Americans early on but the Americans wanted none of it. Even if the Americans accepted them, Al Qaeda would have fought against it and would have hit them hard with terrorist attacks, same way ISIS is doing today.

Also, there are 3 prime ethnic groups in Afghanistan which are the Pashtuns, Uzbeks and the Tajiks. The US should have turned the country into a confederation. Also, a technocracy would have done a better job running the place rather than place the country into hands of clueless and greedy politicians.

This would have trimmed the powers of the Taliban as they were largely a Pashtun group, and worse, headed by them. It is like Yoruba people dictating to Igbos and Delta people.

There are a lot of Muslim countries with Sharia and a much better standard of living like the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar and even Iran. Lots of Muslims from Nigeria live and work there, especially Saudi.
