An Akure Chief Magistrate's Court has ordered that a 38-year-old man, Mr. Ebenezer Eleso, and four others be remanded in prison for allegedly killing his wife.

The Police Prosecutor, Mr. Amos Ifedayo, told the court that Eleso conspired with his brother, Bunmi Eleso (39), Serah Gabriel (40), Isaac Falusi (59) and 64-year-old Omoniyi Olajide to commit the offence on August 29.

Ifedayo told the court that the offence was allegedly committed at Similoluwa Estate, Aule, Akure at about 1.30am on August 29, in Akure Magisterial District contrary to and punishable under sections 342 of the of the criminal code cap 30 Vol. II laws of Ondo State, 1978.

The five accused persons and others still at large were accused of killing one Adesola Eleso by inflicting cuts on her fore head and other parts of her body which resulted in her death.

The police also alleged that the five accused persons and others at large, after inflicting the machete cuts on Adesola Eleso also set her body ablaze, which accelerated her death.

The offence, according to police prosecutor, was contrary to section 311 and punishable under sections 319 of the Criminal Code Cap 30 Vol. II Laws of Ondo State 1978.

The accused persons were further alleged to have unlawfully tampered with the corpse of the woman by cutting her ankles, inserting cola nuts into her eyes and covered her hands with leaves for ritual purposes.

He said the offence was contrary to section 242 (1) of the Criminal Code cap 30 Vol 11 laws of Ondo State, 1978.

Chief Magistrate Igbekele Akinyele said the offence for which the accused persons were charged was murder, which he said was beyond the jurisdiction of his court.

He, therefore, ordered that the five accused persons be remanded in custody while a duplicate copy of the case file should be sent to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.
