The ascent of video streaming platforms has spurred a remarkable digital transformation within Nigeria's entertainment sector. The proliferation of internet connectivity and the widespread use of smartphones have paved the way in the country for a surge in video-on-demand or over-the-top (OTT) media service platforms. With a significant youth population and a growing middle class, there has been a tremendous increase in the demand for on-the-go and personalised entertainment, creating a fertile ground for OTT providers to thrive.

Significantly, several home-grown platforms have emerged to cater to a diverse audience, delivering culturally pertinent content not only within Nigeria but also extending across Africa and beyond. Nevertheless, they face stiff competition from major international players like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+, which have also made notable strides into the Nigerian market. Despite this competition, the growth of OTT channels in Nigeria signifies a vibrant and dynamic shift in the country's entertainment landscape, reflecting the changing preferences and aspirations of its audiences.

These pressing matters will take center stage in the upcoming Filmmakers' Forum, where a distinguished panel of industry leaders will shed light on the challenges faced by emerging OTT platforms in Nigeria. The discussion will feature insights from esteemed CEOs such as Ms. Maijidda Modibbo of Kallo.ng, Mr. Jamilu Abdussalam of Northflix, and Mr. Blessed Idornigie of Ibaka TV. Together, they will delve into these challenges, explore potential opportunities and propose strategies for overcoming the challenges to ensure the sustainable growth of the Nigerian OTT industry.
