Yes, because Niger does not pay subsidy, which means that petrol can be sold at a profit there, and the refinery has enough money to run at a profit.

(Fuel in Niger costs over N1000 per liter now. )

That's a country that spent billions of USD to build refineries. A certain Presidential candidate boasted that he would fix the plants in three months. For the fact that not even one of the plants was fixed in 8years tells a lot not understood in this clime.
Apart from neocolonialism , the selfishness and greed of the Nigerian politicians will lead us to nowhere. Take it or leave it, this country will remain the same until the masses decide to stand together and elect candidates beyond ethnic, religious and other parochial sentimental lines ., of course we know that won't happen anytime soon.

The foreign refineries are making moves to tie Nigerian oil marketers down with debts and conditions so that if local refineries start producing, Nigerian marketers have to continue importing in order to clear their debts.

The oil business is like the drug business. You can't just wake up one day and say you've decided to change your supplier.

Where is this Dangote Refinery we heard about ?

So after collecting billions on billions from FG and CBN at padi-padi rate through the corners, we still have got nothing.
So the nation lost monetary value to please one man's ego and I'm sure he just round-tripped that money and pocketed the change.

This country is fargone, I'm sorry to say.
... dangote refinery.... Buhari just wanted to commission the dangote refinery with his name. .so that it will be in record that is Buhari that commissioned dangote refinery... Buhari and dangote just deceived and scammed nigerians that dangote refinery will start by July ending..
Re: Foreign Refiners Woo Marketers With Credit Facilities by compu(m): 12:29pm On Aug 24, 2023
They are part of the problem in one way.

Their decrease in sales have made them to start giving out credit loans to our importers.
These guys are so reach they can afford to give loans of many years without battling an eye lid just to keep their operations afloat..they are very rich from our senselessness.

Our leaders that we voted into power are very wicked. They have refused to make the refineries work, so that they can keep on importing this fuel because of what they are gaining from it...this is massive corruption!

Pastor bakare of CGO in his broadcast on 13th of agaust said11.531 trillion naira has been spent on the revamping of the nation refineries yet they are not functioning.

NNPC should thoroughly overhaul or should be dissolved, so they can set up a more transparent open company responsible for the nation's petroleum sector ... because this is the main source of our economy unfortunately, past leaders have ignored other Natural resources

Fuel subsidy is not a scam, it is the corruption behind it that has plunged Nigeria into all this mess!. Kill corruption, and not nigerians

Imagine, a whole Nigeria having only 3.7billion dollar has its foreign reserve!... Former president buhari,..... what a shame!

The corruption in Nigeria can be compared to the foul small oozing out of an exposed body of a dead dog of many days without being buried!....what a shame!

Our leaders have forced their way into the power corridors, no wonder the impunity, lawlessness, unaccountability, reckless abandonment, corruption has increased so much that they don't care about the citizens of Nigeria.

But you all shall remember what a man soweth, so he will reap in manifolds.

Whoever are the sets of people responsible for the sufferings of the masses, they will know no peace for the rest of their lives!

The chicken is coming home to roost very soon, than later!

GOD Bless Nigeria and it's citizens!

We, the suffering masses who have endured hardship due to years of wicked and unsympathetic leaders, and currently we are dying daily and bearing the brunt for their corruption practices, past & present.....We Are the true heroes of this great country Nigeria!
And not our leaders!!!

We will overcome....the politicians should know this, no matter how long or how far, the chicken will always come to roost!

God bless Nigeria!!!

Whatever sh!t happens now, Tinubu caused it. If he had a plan of how to remove the subsidy, we wouldn't be where we are today. They wouldn't be so much hardship in Nigeria today.

Cut throat competition amidst dwindling global demand is pushing refiners into such desperation yet Dangote is still projecting to complete his world's largest refinery by 2025 grin grin grin I hope by that time he won't be offering them "buy one tanker and get two tankers free" grin grin grin

Greed has made him not to be reasonable anymore. Someone that should have built a much smaller refinery and complete it three years ago!

I pity Nigerians that are hoping on Dangote refinery to make fuel cheaper. This man will definitely sell even higher than the global rates so he can cut down on his overhead costs and also recover his invested funds/loans ASAP grin grin

see the real sequence:

- The military were busy borrowing and keeping it all to themselves…
-Obasanjo Came in and start repaying the loans, just so we could have some money for development instead of just servicing loans…
-Sure era GEJ had oil boom and GEJ actually blew them all - wasted harvest
Na so Baba Buhari enter, … Naso the borrow begins…

Instead of us to think of main solution, na to look for temporary way out…

This is myopic. You think the refinery is there to only refine? The fertilizer plant nko? Even if petrol goes out today, the residues from its refining would still be in demand.

Dwindling demand is due to cost of living, not patrol going out of use.

GEJ actually borrowed a lot of money. But for the following reasons

1.Oil price was high, but not as high as we needed it.

2.We were paying heavily for subsidy. When oil prices go up, so do subsidy costs. (In 2011, subsidy costs were thrice that of 2010, and that was because of rising oil prices...which is why GEJ did a partial removal in 2012).

We take money from subsidy, and we end up replacing it with money from...loans.

Our debt went up from 6.7 trillion naira to 9.8 trillion naira between 2011-15 alone.
