Oleksandr Usyk Has Retained His WBC, IBF, And WBA Heavyweight Titles by Dandollar101(m): 2:42pm On Aug 27, 2023 |
Oleksandr Usyk has retained his WBC, IBF, and WBA heavyweight titles after defeating British challenger Daniel Dubois via TKO at Tarczynski Arena on Sunday morning. The 26-year-old Ukrainian, fighting in front of a partisan 40,000-strong crowd, dropped Dubois towards the end of the eighth round, finishing the job in the following stanza to improve his undefeated record to 21-0. However, Usyk’s triumph was shrouded in controversy. Dubois caught Usyk in the abdomen with what was deemed a low blow in the fifth round, forcing a lengthy delay and causing the champion immense discomfort. The incident sparked debate as to whether the shot was legal and Usyk should have been given a count. “Daniel Dubois should be world champion.” Dubois was left fuming after the bout, declaring: “I don’t think that was a low blow. I’ve been cheated out of victory tonight. That was a win.” As replays showed on big screens in the arena, Dubois fumed: “How is that low? How is that low? That’s my question. Look at it! Play it again!” Legendary British boxing promoter Frank Warren continued: “It wasn‘t a low blow ... I like Usyk, but that was a complete hometown decision. He won that fight because he was not fit to go on and they gave him a couple of minutes to recover from a legitimate shot. “It’s total nonsense. How long did he get to recover? The governing bodies will have to look at that and order a rematch. We will order appeal what’s happened here.” “Justice has to be done... That was bulls***!” After the fight, Usyk called out WBC heavyweight champion Tsyon Fury. “I‘m ready tomorrow. Listen, I’m ready. Next fight I’m ready to fight Tyson Fury. Will Tyson Fury? I have no idea,” he said. “I can’t wait to see my children and be back home. I’ve been training a long time. I’m a little bit tired.” Oleksandr Usyk vs Daniel Dubois Undercard Oleksandr Usyk def. Congratulations to the champion! He is so good technically and tactically that I don't see him losing those belts in the nearest future. Man is just 26 years doing wonders and I'm here wasting my whole muscles Congrats once again! |

He’s only twenty-six? Wow. Congrats on winning and now retaining the titles. Why not Fury? Well, we might see their bout take place. |
