A bridge that links some towns and villages in Shendam Local Government Area of Plateau State has collapsed following a heavy downpour on Sunday.

Reports indicated that the bridge collapsed on Sunday around 1pm while motorists were on it.

A resident of Shendam, Aliyu Baga, who confirmed the development to the Daily Trust said the collapse of the bridge had inflicted more hardship on the people of the area although no life was lost.

He stated that the bridge was constructed around 1970.

β€œThe people of the LGA have to look for alternate roads to go into the town and other local government councils. The incident has indeed added another hardship. The bridge is linking many places, including hospitals, and markets among others.

β€œIt is the only bridge that eases the movement of farm inputs and all other important economic and social activities in the LG. We appeal to relevant authorities to come to the rescue of the people of the council,” he said

What good has Nigeria ever gained from democracy?
Isn't this collapsed bridge one of d projects of d military regime? For d yeye elected leaders to even run periodical maintenance to sustain it becomes a problem.

The home LGA of the immediate ex-governor, even his people can count the things he has done for them with one hand. That man used Plateau state as a joke for 8 years, the only roads still good there are those made by jang, the state is now dirty, all the street sweepers have vanished since he came in, Dirt now drags road with motorists, the only time you see him patching up the roads is when Buhari or an important dignitary is coming to the state. I remember one time they were holding an event and Buhari was at Polo field, hausa men wey making fun of Lalong, screaming 'Governor mai patchi' which basically translates to 'the patching governor'.

You only see him playing golf whenever he is in the state, but he mostly lives in Abuja while governing Plateau, and to think he is currently a minister is disheartening. This is the 'Padi Padi government' that will fix nigeria.

Yea it's though the bridge collapsed but the former governor had already build a brand new alternative road long before the bridge collapsed, the town is actually very big but they lack electricity, and that's former governor lalongs hometown, quite sad
