Residents of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital have commended the member representing Jere federal constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon Ahmed Satomi for selling 100,000 litres of fuel at the rate of N430 per litre as against N637 per litre in Maiduguri.

The residents made the commendation yesterday during the dispensing of 100,000 litres of fuel by the lawmaker in 24 petrol stations within Maiduguri Metropolitan Council ( MMC) and Jere local government area.

Welfare officer National Automobiles and Technicians Association (NATA) Ibrahim Helma, while commending the lawmaker urged well meaning individuals in the state to emulate the gesture by Satomi and give succour to the masses due to the high cost of living and transportation as a result of fuel subsidy removal.

He said most commercial tricycle ( Keke Napep) riders and motorists in the areas of the distribution are smiling to the chosen petrol stations to benefit from the gesture , adding that it goes a long way in ameliorating the suffering of the beneficiaries.

A commercial tricycle operator, Modu Tijani, who said he has been out of business since the sudden rise in price of fuel as a result of the fuel subsidy removal, said the gesture from the lawmaker will enable some of his colleagues that are out of business to bounce back.

β€œWe are very grateful to Hon. Satomi for coming to our aid in this trying period. We want more of this from other lawmakers and good spirited members of the public to assist the poor in passing through the hardship ravaging them,” Tijani said.

Addressing journalists, the donor and member representing Jere federal constituency, Hon Ahmed Satomi, who is also the chairman House Committee on National Security and Intelligence at the National Assembly, said the programme which was flagged off on Saturday in eight petrol stations is a continuous process, adding that 100,000 litres of fuel have been made available for dispensing to the motorists and residents irrespective of political affiliation.

He however called on well-to-do individuals and organisations to emulate the gesture so as to impact positively on the living condition of all Nigerians, as according to him, palliatives should not be carried out by government alone.

Fuel price impacts everybody.
So the best form of subsidy Govt can give Nigerians is to subsidise fuel and make it more affordable for all.
Then police our borders and prosecute Subsidy Scammers.

Any other palliative is a scam.

Good gesture. NNPC and their corrupt ranks want us to believe that's impossible without subsidy. They say govt has no business being in business but are running NNPC as a business suddenly. They have refineries under them but are suddenly building power plants and pipelines. Who is fooling who in Nigeria.

That's unsustainable, wasteful and a misplaced priority. That man should rather invest in education, health or even provide soft loans/grants to the people.

When they buy fuel at 430 per litre today only to buy it 620 tomorrow, what has anyone benefitted?! Except they can find a way to sell only to local commercial motorists and small businesses and make it available constantly otherwise, it doesn't make sense in the long run.

The above further confirms that Tinubu have succeeded in depleting the income of an average Nigerian worker and moved over 180 million Nigerians into multi dimensional poverty

They are also rehabilitating the refineries..
It's best they run as a business..where people can buy stakes ...it will allow them to be more transparent if they want investors to buy their shares

Subsidy for just a 100k litters. It’s nice gesture though

I believe 100k liters will sustain them for 1 months.

Each state cannot consume more than 15million litters in 12 months.

Some state might be high. But others will be low.

To start with calculate the number of cars in a state. And calculate full tank in a a week.
