A cable thief was on Sunday night electrocuted in Amawbia, in the Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The suspect identified to be from Northern part of the country was found dead the next day.

As a consequence, the Sarki Hausawa Amawbia, Haruna Adamu, has banned night movement of "Iron condemn" truck pusher in Ezimezi bypass, Amawbia.

This followed protest by residents of the area against vandals suspected to "Iron condemn" operators, mostly of Northern extraction, in the area.

This came barely 12 hours after a suspected "iron condemn" operator was killed by electrocution in the area.

Addressing the Ezimezi residents at Hausa quarters, Amawbia, Sariki Haruna Adamu in the area, condemned the incessant vandalisation of electric cables in the area.

He decreed that any "Iron condemn" truck pusher found plying the Ezimezi route from 7pm should be arrested and handed over to the police.

He said," I'm against this incessant vandalisation of electric cables in this place. I enjoin you to arrest such people and hand them over to the police for imprisonment.

"Again, I enjoin you to arrest any member of the Hausa community loitering about on Ezimezi rout after 9pm. I had long ago told the Ezimezi leadership to enforce these rules to checkmate these incessant robberies in this place.

The Ezimezi residents later moved to the Police Area Command, Amawbia , to lodge same complaints wherein an officer , who would not want to be named , asked the residents to put up a petition in that respect.

The officer said," We invite the Sariki Hausa and discuss this issue for enforcement. Please, go and do a petition to us on this development so that we shall commence investigation on the matter.

Residents of Amawbia town woke up Monday morning to discover a man that was electrocuted at a transformer in the area.

It was gathered that the yet-to-be identified man had come with his gang members to vandalize electrical wire installations at a transformer Infront of a hotel in Amawbia .

The gang members had capitalized on the five-day power outage that rocked major cities in Anambra recently.

However, luck ran out for one of them who was disconnecting the wires when the Enugu Electrical Distribution Company EEDC restored power at about 12 midnight and the man was electrocuted.

It was also gathered that the gang members noticing that their colleague had been electrocuted took off with the wires they had already vandalized abandoning him.

The Police Public Relations Officer DSP Tochukwu Ikenga is yet to confirm the report, but men of the Anambra Police Command were seen at the scene of the incident but nobody could identify who he was.
