On Tuesday, students from the University of Jos in Plateau State staged a protest by obstructing the roads leading to the campus.

Their demonstration was in response to the university's decision to raise tuition fees and the costs of various services offered by the institution.

The student protesters who were mobilized by leaders of the Students Union Government of the institution called for an urgent reversal of the hike in school fees and other services rendered by the University.

Armed with placards with different inscriptions such as “If your children can afford the money, we can’t”, and “We don’t want to drop out of school”, among others.

The students said Nigerians were already going through a lot of hardship, hence the need for the authorities not to complicate the already bad situation with further fee increments.

Government non agreement to increase ASUU salaries and universities funding is factor causing this widespread increase in universities school fees.

In essence, we have killed strike, but sacrificed low school fees to achieve strike-free academic programme in our universities.

My opinion in Universities board should wait for minimum wage to be increased before implementing the hike in school fees.
