Various Types Of Gas Struts You Need To Know by mahendralink: 9:45am On Sep 19, 2023
A gas spring, also known as a gas strut, is a type of spring that, unlike a typical mechanical spring that relies on elastic deformation, pneumatically stores potential energy and resists external force applied perpendicular to the direction of the piston shaft using compressed gas contained within an enclosed cylinder sealed by a sliding piston.

Common uses for them include office chairs and automobiles where they are used in the construction of struts that support the weight of the hatchback tailgate while it is open. Such struts are supplied by Ovesco. Along with furniture, medicinal, and aeronautical uses, certain buildings' doors and windows also incorporate them.

Following are the different types of gas struts that can be used:

'Swift & Sure' Fixed Force Compression Gas Struts

The most popular type in the Camloc line, offered in the broadest range of sizes and forces, is the basic line of fixed compression gas struts.

'Vari-lift' Adjustable Force Compression Gas Struts

The Vari-Lift valve is an add-on that can be installed on all of the Camloc range's standard gas struts. It is a little brass valve attached to the tube's end that enables the spring's force to be adjusted downward. The ability to make this modification in-situ saves time and effort while enabling fine-tuning of individual applications. They are excellent for new application prototypes and initial setup.

Compression Gas Struts in Stainless Steel with Fixed Force

The Swift & Sure series is identical to the Stainless Steel range, except, as the name implies, the springs are made of stainless steel rather than carbon steel. The springs are made from 316L-grade stainless steel and are designed for usage in demanding settings, including marine, food, pharmaceutical, and chemical, to mention a few.

'Econoloc' Safety Locking Gas Strut with Shroud

A safety locking shroud that automatically engages when the spring is fully extended and stops the spring from contracting is a feature of the Econoloc compression gas strut. When used improperly, such as on catering vans where there may be overloads, this safeguards both the operators and spectators.

'Stop & Stay+' Friction-Locking Compression Gas Struts

The Stop & Stay+ is a development of the Stop & Stay line; it fulfils the same function but uses an internal valve mechanism that is pre-set at the factory and doesn't need to be adjusted or maintained on a regular basis. The Stop & Stay+ is designed for high-volume manufacturing environments, as opposed to the low-volume and prototyping conditions of the Stop & Stay. These goods are utilized for service flaps, monitor arms, reclining footrests, and passenger information systems.

Locking Gas Struts "Block lift"

Block lift struts, also known as locking gas struts, allow the application to be locked in position at any point along the stroke length; this is accomplished by using an internal piston arrangement that is actuated by a button at the end of the rod. Block lift struts can be rigid locking or spring blocking; spring blocking allows slight movement under load, while rigid locking types do not.

If you're interested to find out more about gas struts and hardware supplies visit Ovesco.. Machines used in industrial manufacture, such as the press tooling industry, where the forces needed for their operation demand much larger gas springs.
