Terrorists Kill 14, Kidnap 60 Residents 48 Hours After Abducting Dozens Of University Students In Zamfara

This comes barely 48 hours after some terrorists abducted undergraduate students of the Federal University Gusau in the state.

Gunmen suspected to be terrorists on Sunday killed eight people and kidnapped no fewer than 60 other residents in Zamfara State, northwest region, Reuters reports.A traditional leader revealed that the terrorists tried to attack a forward army base in a rural Magami community of the state during the attack.

This comes barely 48 hours after some terrorists abducted undergraduate students of the Federal University Gusau in the state.

SaharaReporters had reported how the gunmen invaded the students’ residence at Sabon-Gida identified as Nazeer Sabon-Gida and took away some female students of the school.

Witnesses told Reuters that the gunmen broke down doors, shattered windows and abducted 24 female students from their hostels in the early hours of Friday.

As they marched their victims away, the armed men also took a security guard and 10 construction workers who were sleeping in a makeshift shelter on the premises of Federal University Gusau, local officials said.

A few hours later, the Nigerian Army announced that they had rescued six of the students after a gun battle with the terrorists.

Reuters also added that suspected Islamist insurgents ambushed a convoy of vehicles under military escort, killing two soldiers and four civilians in the Northeast region.

This was confirmed by a police source who added that attackers set fire to five vehicles and drove off with one truck.

President Bola Tinubu has yet to specify how he intends to address rampant insecurity. His economic policies, like the elimination of an expensive fuel subsidy and devaluation of the naira, have increased the cost of living and hardship, infuriating many Nigerians.
