I personally don't think it's feasible for succession in churches to be democratic. Whoever the chosen successor may be, some people will still be against the choice.
If you are to consider the high levels of betrayal within the system over the years, the pastor should feel free to choose a loyal follower to succeed him or her.

You know that some pentecostal churches thrive on miracles. Just a few preachers have that gift. For them, preaching the word of God is not enough.

If people consider you someone who can pray for them and God will answer their prayers, you are likely to have more members than someone who doesn't have that gift.

If a pastor doesn't consider that fact, plus managerial competence, strong belief in the dream of the founder, commitment, discipline, etc. of his successor before handing over, the church is likely headed for a doom.

Last week, it was quite disturbing for a pastor to hand over his church to his son who kisses ladies up and down in Nollywood and wears dreadlocks like a Rastafarian.
