Moamer Kadhafi was captured as his hometown of Sirte was falling on Thursday, a National Transitional Council commander said, adding that the ousted Libyan strongman was badly wounded.

"He has been captured. He is badly wounded, but he is still breathing," Mohamed Leith told AFP, adding that he had seen Kadhafi himself and that he was wearing a kaki uniform and a turban.

Libyan TV channel "Libya lil Ahrar" also said that he was in custody.

In Sirte, medics said the defence minister in Kadhafi's ousted regime, Abu Bakr Yunis, had been killed in the final battle for the strongman's hometown.
His body was identified at the field hospital where it was brought in a pick-up truck on Thursday, Dr Abdu Rauf told AFP.

Libyan Tv is now reporting that Ghadaffi has died of his wounds.

(CBS/AP) Unconfirmed reports of fugitive dictator Muammar Qaddafi's death surfaced Thursday shortly after his hometown of Sirte fell to Libyan fighters.
Transitional National Council official Abdel Majid Mlegta told Reuters news agency that Qaddafi was wounded and taken into custody while fleeing Sirte in a convoy that NATO warplanes attacked.

"He's captured. He's wounded in both legs , He's been taken away by ambulance," Mlegta told the news agency by telephone.

Mlegta later told Reuters that Qaddafi died of those wounds.

"He was also hit in his head," Mlegta said. "There was a lot of firing against his group and he died."

The White House, U.S. State Department and Pentagon could not confirm the reports.

According to the Associated Press, chief spokesman for the Transitional National Council Jalal el-Gallal and the council's military spokesman Abdul-Rahman Busin said the reports were unconfirmed.

Once labeled public enemy number one, the good times are over. Gaddafi would have saved himself a lot of energy by putting a bullet to his brain once he was tagged. Next will be Assad unless he resigns immediately.
