An African proverb wisely states that when an elder passes away, it is akin to a library burning down. In the case of Baba Ifáyẹmi Ọ̀ṣúndàgbonù Elebuibon, this saying finds its perfect embodiment within the Yoruba community.

Born in 1947 in the ancient Yoruba city of Osogbo, Ifayemi Elebuibon stands as a living repository of Yoruba knowledge, encompassing both the common and the esoteric. He is a prolific Yoruba writer, poet, author, linguist, and a globally renowned Ifa priest. His works, including plays and films, have garnered international acclaim for his unwavering dedication to preserving Yoruba culture and heritage. Notably, he has played significant roles in recent Yoruba productions such as "Jagun Jagun" and "Anikulapo," and his creative output shows no sign of slowing down.

In addition to his creative pursuits, Baba Ifáyẹmi serves as a visiting lecturer at various institutions, including the Department of African Language and Literature at Obafemi Awolowo University, the Black Studies program at San Francisco State University, and the Wajumbe Cultural Institution in California. Through his tireless efforts, the Osun Osogbo Grove was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Furthermore, in 2005, UNESCO's third proclamation of World Masterpieces recognized the Ifa System of the Yoruba people as one of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity, deserving preservation and protection.

Baba Ifáyẹmi's contributions extend beyond the spoken word, as his books, journal publications, recorded audiovisual references, and various initiatives have propelled Yoruba history, culture, literature (both oral and written), philosophy, theatre, and medicine to global recognition. His work stands as a beacon, ensuring that the rich tapestry of Yoruba heritage is safeguarded for the generations yet to come. In the words of the Yoruba, "Kí baba pẹ́ fún wa l'aṣẹ Èdùmàrè," may his blessings endure for us by the grace of the Almighty.
