Ten Proven Money Lessons from the Bible

EXCLUSIVE
| -- By the work of various authors here are ten proven money lessons from the Bible. The Naira Economist brings you all on income, financial data and the intra-african economy.

1. Live within your means. Proverbs 21:20 says, “There is treasure to be desired and oil in the house of the wise, but a foolish man squanders it.” When you spend more money than you earn, you are setting yourself up for financial trouble. Make a budget and stick to it so that you can live within your means and save money for the future.

2. Pay your debts off quickly. Proverbs 22:7 says, “The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.” When you have debt, you are paying interest to someone else. This can make it difficult to save money and reach your financial goals. Make a plan to pay off your debt as quickly as possible so that you can be free from financial bondage.

3. Save for the future. Proverbs 21:20 also says, “There is treasure to be desired and oil in the house of the wise.” Having a savings cushion can help you weather unexpected financial setbacks, such as a job loss or medical emergency. Aim to save at least 3-6 months of living expenses in an emergency fund.

4. Invest your money wisely. Proverbs 22:3 says, “The shrewd see danger and avoid it, but the simple go on and suffer the consequences.” When you invest your money, you are putting it to work so that it can grow over time. There are many different investment options available, so do your research and choose investments that are appropriate for your risk tolerance and financial goals.

5. Be generous with your money. Proverbs 11:25 says, “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” When you give to others, you are not only helping them, but you are also storing up treasure in heaven (Matthew 6:20). Aim to give a regular portion of your income to charity or to help those in need.

6. Avoid get-rich-quick schemes. Proverbs 13:11 says, “Dishonest money dwindles away, but whoever gathers money by honest labor makes it grow.” There is no easy way to get rich quick. If someone is promising you high returns with little or no risk, it is probably a scam. Be wary of any investment that sounds too good to be true.

7. Don’t put your trust in money. Matthew 6:24 says, “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” Money is a tool, but it is not the most important thing in life. Don’t let your pursuit of money come at the expense of your relationships, your health, or your spiritual well-being.

8. Be content with what you have. Hebrews 13:5 says, “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.'” It is easy to fall into the trap of always wanting more. But the truth is that we have everything we need to live a happy and fulfilling life. Be grateful for what you have and don’t compare yourself to others.

9. Teach your children about money. Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” It is important to teach our children about money from a young age. Help them learn how to budget, save, and invest. Talk to them about the importance of generosity and avoiding debt.

10. Trust God to provide for your needs. Philippians 4:19 says, “And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.” God is our provider. He promises to meet all of our needs, according to his riches and glory. Trust him to take care of you, even when times are tough.

These are just a few of the many money lessons that can be found in the Bible. When we follow God’s wisdom, we can experience financial freedom and peace.
