AE-FUNAI DEPARTMENTS OF COMPUTER SCIENCE AND PHYSICS DONATE OFFICE EQUIPMENT TO VARSITY
As part of their contributions to the growth and development of the university, the Departments of Computer Science, and Physics, Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike. Ebonyi State, have donated some office equipment comprising of office tables, conference table, public address system, chairs and stools to the institution.

Speaking while receiving the items, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sunday Elom noted that the donations provided by the two departments would ensure that staff and students work and study under very conducive academic environment, adding that when lecturers are comfortable in their offices, it makes their job of teaching easier.

The Vice-Chancellor who was represented at the presentation event by his deputy in charge of academic, Prof. Romanus Ejiaga, maintained that lecturers will be able to keep office hours with their students and be involved in academic advising and counselling of students, stressing that a good working environment is a contributing factor to the productivity of academic staff.

He also noted that he was encouraged and inspired by the gestures of the two departments as it stresses the importance of civic action and public service, and therefore urged other departments and faculties in the university to contribute in some ways to the public good as the university cannot do it alone.

The Vice-Chancellor further thanked the staff and students of the two departments for their thoughtfulness and magnanimity in going out of their way to make the donations in spite of the prevailing harsh economic climate in the country.

Speaking on the rationale for the donations, Dr. Ifeanyi Achi and Dr. Arthur Nwachukwu of Computer Science and Physics respectively, noted that the items were procured from the proceeds of their departmental laboratory manuals, adding that they decided to plough it back into their departments to augment the efforts of the university management.

They added that they have come to the realization of the fact that management alone cannot adequately run the university without the collaborative efforts of other people, stressing that as the reaccreditation exercise of the university’s programmes by the National Universities Commission approaches, all hands must be on deck to ensure that all the programmes that were due for reaccreditation are fully reaccredited by the regulatory body.

The Department of Computer Science made the following donations: retiling of the computer laboratory, construction of 50 iron laboratory stools, one printer, one photocopier, two public address system and 25 sizeable office tables while the Department of Physics donated the under-listed items: Furnishing of departmental seminar room and provision of 10 desks and 20 chairs.
