LASPARK PARTNERS RED BULL ON BASKETBALL COURT UPGRADE

Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK), in a bid to improve the health and well-being of Lagosians, as well as promote community engagement, has partnered with Red Bull on the renovation and upgrade of the Basketball Court in Ndubuisi Kanu Park, Alausa.

Unveiling the newly renovated Basketball Court, the General Manager of LASPARK, Mrs. Adetoun Popoola, expressed gratitude to Red Bull for the rehabilitation work, saying the State Government will continue to seek out opportunities for collaboration to promote recreation and beautification in Lagos State.

ā€œThe partnership on this project is in line with LASPARKā€™s mandate to promote beautification, recreation and leisure in Lagos State", she said.
Popoola highlighted the importance of parks and gardens as safe spaces for members of communities to converge, interact and improve their health and wellness by being active, noting that parks can contribute to lower crime rates in communities.

She added that the partnership also affirms Governor Babajide Sanwo-Oluā€™s commitment to a Healthy and Sustainable Environment in Lagos, stating that LASPARK is open to exploring partnerships and collaborations that will benefit residents of the State.

The General Manager averred that Red Bull's aim, through the partnership, was to leave a strong and positive legacy behind by working with local communities to upgrade existing playgrounds, courts and community centres.

ā€œThe artwork in the basketball court was done by popular urban graffiti artist Osa ā€˜Sevenā€™ Okunpolor, arguably, one of the most talented and sought-after graffiti artists in Africa; who teamed up with Red Bull on the basketball court upgrade projectā€, she revealed.

The newly rehabilitated basketball court hosted 16 basketball teams from all over Nigeria, who had made it through the qualifiers for the National Finals of the Red Bull Half Court Competition.

The 3 x 3 basketball tournament holds in more than 20 countries across the world, with the World Final slated for September 2021 in Russia.

LASPARK, GIANTS OF AFRICA RENOVATE OWORONSHOKI BASKETBALL COURT

The Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK), in partnership with Giants of Africa (GOA), has completed the renovation and rehabilitation of the Oworonshoki Basketball Court.

Speaking at the unveiling of the renovated Court, on Tuesday, in Oworonshoki, the General Manager of LASPARK, Mrs. Adetoun Popoola, said the alliance is in line with the Agency's mandate to promote recreation and leisure in the State.

She stated that LASPARK approved the rehabilitation of the sporting facility as a Corporate Social Responsibility Project, adding that GOA is on a mission to use Basketball as a tool to educate and enrich the lives of African youths.

"They have a long term goal to build 100 basketball courts in Africa. Our partnership with them affirms the present administrationā€™s commitment to creating safe environments for social engagements and contributing to lower crime rates within the communities", she added.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Olusola Aiyepeku, stated that the renovated Court is a result of an effective partnership that represents the continuous manifestation of what the Lagos State Government is all about.

He noted that the government will continue to embark on collaboration that will bring about meaningful youth development in the State.
The Founder of GOA, Mr. Masai Ujiri, a National Association of Basketball (NBA) Champion and President of the Toronto Raptors Basketball Club, expressed gratitude to LASPARK for the seamless process through which GOA got approval to rehabilitate the court.

While thanking the youths for their presence, Ujiri noted that the Court is remodelled to inspire them, urging relevant stakeholders to keep the facility safe for the youths to play and enhance their skills.

"You can start here, build, grow and become bigger in the NBA sports like notable players, who have gone under the tutelage of GOA and are now playing in the NBA. You can also be a sports administrator and use Basketball as a tool to achieve greatness", he said.

Poor location! It's just by the main road
Should have been inside a bit
Traffic loading...
Imagine going to island n there's activities going on there...

There is no access to the park from the expressway. The entrance is at the other side (through an inner road). You can't even access the schools directly from the expressway. The entrance is on an inner road.

What a good thing. The youths in that area will have somewhere to go to show off their skills.
Though I see police harassing the youths that will troop out to the park accusing them of Yahoo and cultism just to extort them.

Optical illusion.

The Lagos Skate Park is between the school cluster at Osborne and the Alagbon Transmission Station of the Transmission Company of Nigeria.

The skate park is not underneath the power lines, rather there are power lines before and after the skate park (none above it).

Perspective makes it look like it is under the power lines.
