Abraham looked up and saw three men standing nearby.
When he saw them, he hurried from the entrance of his tent to meet them and bowed low to the ground.”
Abraham showed immediate hospitality to the three men, inviting them to rest under a tree and preparing a big meal for them.

During their visit with Abraham, the three men warned him that God’s judgment was about to fall upon Sodom and Gomorrah They also promised that Abraham’s wife, Sarah, would have a baby by the same time next year.

Some have suggested that all three of these “men” were angelic beings who appeared to Abraham in the form of men. However, Genesis 18:1 says that it was “the LORD” (Yahweh) who appeared to Abraham.

So, one of the three “men” must have been God Almighty taking on the appearance of a man.
We call such an appearance a “theophany.” When Jesus appears in His pre-incarnate body in the Old Testament,
We call it a “Christophany.”
Whether God’s appearance to Abraham in Mamre was a theophany or a Christophany, we don’t know.
But it does seem clear from the context that one of the visitors was God Himself and the other two were the angels who later visited Sodom and spoke to Lot.

Don't forget that this is a vision shown to Moses
It wasn't an eye witness account
We should not take it literally.

The identity of those beings is known mostly from sources outside Christianity. These men are active even today.

The issue is, whenever a christian happens on that information or even these beings who appeared to Abraham, the "reject at sight" mechanism kicks in. This is the job of the idea that everything must be found in the Bible for it to be accepted as a fact or truth...it's a trap for mental or spiritual crystalisis.

The persons who asked that the books which made their way into what Christians accept as 'the Bible' today still have more of such materials.

Sadly they can't ask that more books be added into the current Bible to satiate the "is it scriptural?" folks...

Don't account seems like Abraham and Moses were conversing with Jehovah and the person identifies himself as Jehovah if you read the account well

Paul mentions that both Moses and Abraham were actually speaking with angels

It says that Jehovah's angel visited Gideon and conversed with him but in verses 14 and 15, it says that Jehovah was the one telling Gideon what to do cos the Bible shifts from addressing the person from Jehovah's angel to Jehovah and Gideon himself addresses him as Jehovah

In another instance, Jehovah's angel was the one who appeared and shared news with Manoah and his wife about the son they will have, Samson. Judges 13 describe him as Jehovah's angel and the angel of the true God but Manoah w told his wife “We shall positively die, because it is God that we have seen.” Although he did not actually see Jehovah God, Manoah felt that way because he had seen the materialized personal spokesman for God.


The eye of any mortal man cannot see God. Like Jehovah told Moses, no man can see God and live.
