There are three types of English speakers in Nigeria 1. Oldies; Nigerians who learnt English directly from the whites. This class are mostly old and have a good command of English. 2. Average Speakers; Nigerians born from 1970s, most of this group have never left the shores of Nigeria. They were thought by the oldies and some older Average speakers like them. They are the brain behind Nigerian English. Like their name they have an average command of English. 3. Been Tos and Phoneeh forming speakers; This class comprises of Nigerians who have lived or been abroad and those who learn and try to speak like Native English speakers. This class of speakers have a very good command of English and some could be likened as Native speakers. Fun fact: most Nigerians are Average English speakers |
