He was offered bail, but refused freedom in exchange for abandoning his mandate. This was a multimillionaire in US Dollars. The richest man in Nigeria at that time. Yet, Bashorun chose prison over freedom. He did not run away and abandon his people.

The Yoruba are a very tactful and diplomatic people. These are attributes that some people mistake for cowardice or sycophancy. They are a people who understand how to stoop to conquer.

Pa Obasanjo has always been a very charismatic leader of men. Now I see why he is always very unpleasant when he is relegated or when his opinion is challenged.

Incidentally, the account is that Col. Benjamin Adekunle , Black Scorpion, was the real Hero that led the gallant Nigerian forces through the tough battle grounds but was replaced by Col. Obasanjo after he had achieved most of the victory at the war front.

The war was avoidable but became necessary to be prosecuted for the sake of the nation. Both sides lost a significant number of lives and we pray never to experience war in Nigeria again.

The war commanders were murtala Mohammed, who commanded the others like Abacha and the rest if murtala Mohammed narrowly escaped loosing the entire 2nd division at Abagana, Abacha would not have been spared, Mohammed Shuwa Abacha's kinsman could not make much progress with 1st division of the Nigerian military and was at a stalemate till the war ended despite having Chadian rebels fighting for him.
