Offa Youths Council Raises Alarm Over Neglect of Offa Township Stadium, St Claire's-Rondo-Ikotun Road

The Offa Youths Council (OYC) has lauded the Kwara State Government for its ongoing road rehabilitation efforts in the town of Offa, situated in Kwara State.

This disclosure was made in a statement issued by the Aare Musbau Olalekan Olaniyi, President of the Offa Youths Council, and also Chief Aare Bobajiroro of Offa land, on Tuesday, October 31.

He expressed appreciation for the state government's commitment to improving the infrastructure in Offa. The rehabilitation projects come as a relief to the residents who have long grappled with deteriorating road conditions, especially during the rainy season.

Roads undergoing rehabilitation include: Orita Ita Merin/Offa Grammar School Road, Tipper Garage Road, Offa General Hospital Road, Ojoku/Ademola Square Road, Owode Market Road and Eesa Road.

However, the council also raised concerns about the neglect of the St Claire's-Rondo-Ikotun Road, calling on Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazak to address the issue promptly.

The OYC emphasized their concern over the 1.6km St Claire's-Rondo-Ikotun Road, which remains incomplete and poses a significant inconvenience to residents. This concern was initially highlighted in early October 2023 when a video went viral on social media. The video featured residents of the Rondo community expressing their dissatisfaction with the state government's inability to complete half of the road.

Aare Musbau Olalekan Olaniyi stressed that it is essential for the government to address the neglected road promptly, as the incomplete project hampers the community's mobility and economic activities.

The OYC President also reminded Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazak of the December 2021 approval of the upgrading of Oloffa Stadium.

He partly said, "Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq said he had approved the upgrading of the Oloffa Stadium in Offa with the installation of synthetic grass at the edifice and provision of new stands, dressing rooms, referees changing rooms, media tribune and other facilities that will qualify it to host Grade A matches. This was stated in December 2021. He said work would begin December 27 and be completed in 2022 (last year). Till now (October 2023), we are yet to see anything from the government.

"As the rehabilitation efforts continue, the residents of Offa hope that the state government will prioritize addressing the concerns raised by the OYC to ensure that all roads in the region are fully restored. We hope the Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazak-led government will fulfil its promise on St Claire's-Rondo-Ikotun Road and Offa Township Stadium, thereby enhancing the quality of life and boosting economic prospects."
