During the first AI Safety Summit held in the United Kingdom, Elon Musk proposed the creation of an external oversight entity that could monitor AI development companies and raise warnings in case of concerns. Musk explained, “Our primary goal here is to establish a structure for transparency so that there exists an impartial third-party referee capable of monitoring the activities of leading AI companies and raising concerns if necessary.” The billionaire entrepreneur made these remarks while speaking to journalists at Bletchley Park, located in central England. “I may not be certain about the precise definition of fair rules, but it’s crucial to commence with gaining a comprehensive understanding before implementing oversight,” Musk stated.
