1 Corinthians 3:16 AMPC
16. Do you not discern and understand that you [the whole church at Corinth] are God’s temple (His sanctuary), and that God’s Spirit has His permanent dwelling in you [to be at home in you, collectively as a church and also individually]?

It is quite pertinent that Paul wants the church to both discern and understand her position in God’s grand scheme in this dispensation. The church must come to the realization that she is God’s sanctuary, and His Spirit dwell in her collectively as a church and also individually. The moment the church come to terms with this truth, she would centre herself as co labourer with God. “For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building” (1 Corinthians 3:9).
Scripture teaches that God has put all things under Jesus’ feet and gave him to be the head over all things to the church. Paul describes the church in relation to the human body. In the human body message is sent through the nervous system to the brain, which in turn send out the necessary neurons which communicate with our senses. So there is a communication of the brain to the body via the neurons. The Lord Jesus is the head of the body, the church; and as such, there is anointing flowing from the Lord Jesus, the head, to the whole body, the church.
Therefore, in order to discern and understand the anointing that is in the church, which Paul espoused in our beginning text, we will have to study the anointing in Christ, since He is the head of the body.
Luke 4:17-18
17. And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written
18. The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor, he hath sent me to heal the broken hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.
The Lord Jesus said He’s anointed to preach, to heal, and to set captives free. The church being the body of Christ is therefore anointed to preach, to heal, and set captives free. Consequently, there’s an anointing in the church to preach, the anointing to heal, and the anointing to set captives free. Now it is very important that the church see the progression of the anointing resident within her. First is the anointing to preach or teach. Second is the anointing to heal. Third is the anointing to set at liberty those that are bound. This succession must follow each other in order for the church to glean great results. That is, for the church to operate in the healing anointing, she would’ve preached or taught the word. Mark in his gospel gave us a glimpse of this succession. “And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen” (Mark 16:20).
