Winter is undoubtedly amongst the toughest times for maintaining healthy and attractive skin. All of us have experienced how our skin gets itchy, dry, and irritated during the cool winter days. The blustery and cold outside conditions can very easily make the skin feel raw.

Winter skincare becomes challenging because of some of the things we love doing during the winter. For example, the American Academy of Dermatology reveals that sitting by fire has a considerable drying effect on the skin. Also, a hot shower strips the skin of its natural oils and makes it dry.

Though there are many specific skincare concerns for the winter, each of these issues can be addressed in many uncomplicated ways. Mentioned below are simple things you can do to maintain the beauty and health of your skin: can nasal polyps get infected even in harsh winter conditions.

- It is a very good idea to maximize the moisture of your indoor spaces by investing in a dehumidifier. This will add moisture to the dry air and help you maintain hydrated skin even in winter.

- When the outside temperature goes down significantly, all of us tend to crank up the heat. However, the air inside the house gets even drier because of the central heat. In order to maintain healthy skin, try to set your thermostat between 68°F and 72°F, if possible.

- We all love taking steamy showers in the winter days. However, the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) suggests that a lukewarm shower for five to ten minutes is a much better option for the skin.

- The use of wrong soap may have disastrous consequences for dry and itchy skin. Avoid using regular bar soaps that contain artificial fragrances and skin irritants. Instead, use a moisturizing gel or cleanser without any fragrance.

- During the winter season, use astringents sparingly, if you have to use them at all. Instead, opt for toners and cream-based cleansers. Astringents are known to contain alcohol, a noted dehydrating agent. By avoiding products containing alcohol and fragrances, you will be able to retain the natural oils present in your skin.

- As far as winter care for your lips is concerned, use a moisturizing balm to prevent your lips from chapping. This will also help heal cracked and dry lips. If any particular product causes a tingling or stinging sensation, immediately switch to some other product.

- Keep your skin healthy by moisturizing it each time after washing. You may consider applying a hand cream for this purpose. Also, it is a good idea to wear waterproof gloves while washing dishes or other household utensils.

- This significantly increases the risk of exposure to harmful UV rays. In fact, these rays can cause damage even on cloudy days by permeating clouds. The only way to remain safe from UV exposure is to use a high-quality sunscreen. Before venturing out in the winter, apply a broad-spectrum, moisturizing sunscreen. The SPF value of your sunscreen must be fifteen or more.

Please remember that the condition of your dry winter skin may get aggravated by certain types of cold-weather fabrics. Stay safe from this problem by ensuring that your skin is in direct contact only with lights layers of fabric made from soft and breathable materials. You can certainly wear your warmer and heavier winter clothing over them. Don’t forget to protect your hands with mittens or gloves.
Be it winter, summer, or any other season offers a wide range of natural skincare products suitable for all skin types.
