A coalition of NGOs led by Initiative for Leadership and Economic Watch  in Nigeria has raised an alarm over the activities of NCL President, Ajaero as it poses a grave threat to democracy in Nigeria. Addressing a crowded press conference in Abuja today, the coalition of society groups  led by Ambassador Splendour Agbonkpolor called for the overhauling of the leadership of the NLC to purge the union of 'questionable elements who are trying to bring the labour union into disrepute by being politically induced to cause crisis during the forthcoming election. The also called for the suspension of Ajaero and that he should be investigated by the Police, DSS and other security agencies.

According to the coalition of NGOs,

"Following the series of ugly political events, lawlessness in Imo State as result of the poorly stage managed NLC protest by the Comrade Ajaero, have necessitated us to address this world press conference in order to set the records straight.

They also claimed that "events of the last one week that nearly snowballed into a breakdown of law and order in Imo State, is very disturbing and worrisome.
Recall that on the 2nd of November 2023, the partisan labour leader Comrade Ajaero went on a berserk expedition, calling out law abiding Imo Workers for a wild protest to invoke a security breach, which means that Ajearo has missed the track and is taking the laws into his hands and as such should be tamed not to further cause pandemonium in Imo state during the election."
According to the group, 'let it be on record that Comrade Ajaero led NLC have now become a political arm of the Labor Party ready to blackmail, arm-twist and rain puerile machinations to disrupt the forthcoming democratic election in Imo State, Ajearo has no right to stop the good people of Imo State from exercising their franchise, which is their inalienable right under democratic governance'.
They also noted that Ajaero in connivance with his shenanigans are ready to dance the macabre dance, their stock in trade is to blackmail the government and score cheap political points.  It is based on this that they argued that it is high time the union suspended Ajaero in order to 'restore the confidence of ordinary Nigerians who see labour unionism as a struggle for the enforcement of workers’ rights and entitlement.'

Why should the country be brought on it's knees because he was slapped by Thugs in Imo state. This NLC under Ajaero is extremely partisan.

According to Reno Omokri on twitter:

What is the rationale for the Nigerian Labour Congress shutting down Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, over a local matter that occurred between the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, and thugs allegedly sent by the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma?

Is this not madness? So, because of what happened to one man in only one state, the whole of Nigeria should shut down, and flights in and out of the nation's capital should be halted? Think of the economic loss to Nigeria to satisfy one man's ego.

How is this punishment inflicted upon the entire Nigerian nation affecting Hope Uzodinma or Imo State? If you stop people from flying into Imo, does that not help Uzodinma win the election scheduled for Saturday? Ajaero is from Imo and cannot deny that he went there to campaign for the Labour Party candidate. This is very dictatorial of Joe Ajaero. The NLC under him serves his personal agenda rather than the national interest.

No waste your time. No NLC member would want to remove Ajaero, unless the government buys a mole to do what they are doing in Labour Party. Imagine what it means to beat up the President of the Labour Union of a country and everyone thinks it's okay.

This is the time NLC and TU have to come together and show the government that they deserve to respected and taken seriously. There's a saying at my place that if a snake doesn't show what it's made of, ladies will fold it and use it for that clothing support placed on their heads before carrying loads.

First and foremost, Hope Uzodinma has to eat humble pie and apologize to Ajaero. That's a good place to start.
