Updates on the Al-Aqsa Flood operation presented in this episode of Samri Channel.
Starting with the American Wall Street Journal, which said that the director of the CIA, William Burns, discussed with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and the head of the Egyptian General Intelligence Service, Abbas Kamel, a proposal for an Egyptian administration of security in the Gaza Strip. The newspaper added that the goal was “for the Palestinian Authority to be able to take over responsibility” at a later period, according to what senior Egyptian officials said. The newspaper confirmed that “Sisi rejected the proposal, saying that Egypt would not play a role in eliminating Hamas because it needs Hamas to maintain security on the border.” Meanwhile, Egyptian sources revealed yesterday, Wednesday, that Cairo is close to reaching a humanitarian truce in the Gaza Strip, to exchange prisoners, as a result of intensive communications carried out by Cairo, according to what was reported by the “Cairo” news channel. Earlier, during his meeting with Burns, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi stressed the determinants of the Egyptian position on developments in the situation in Gaza, especially the necessity of an immediate ceasefire to protect civilians in Gaza. Al-Sisi also stated a few days ago that “millions of people are subjected to collective punishment in the Gaza Strip without discrimination,” rejecting “the forced displacement of Palestinians to Sinai.”

On the other hand, a US defense official told CNN that the Iran-backed Houthis shot down an American drone off the coast of Yemen. The official added that the MQ-9 Reaper drone was operating in international airspace and over international waters when it was shot down, and added that US Central Command is investigating the incident. The Houthis previously shot down an MQ-9 Reaper aircraft over Yemen in 2019.

The downing of the plane, for which Houthi rebels claimed responsibility, earlier Wednesday, comes several weeks after the US warship USS Carney intercepted several missiles and drones fired by the Houthis as they headed north along the Red Sea. CNN reported earlier that the ship shot down 4 cruise missiles and 15 drones over the course of 9 hours, and the trajectory of those projectiles left little doubt that they were heading to Israel. Pro-Iranian groups have intensified their attacks on American forces and bases in the Middle East in recent weeks. US officials said US and coalition bases in Iraq and Syria had been attacked at least 40 times since October 17, resulting in several US soldiers sustaining minor injuries. A senior defense official described Iran as the "center of gravity" for attacks on US forces in the region, saying that "Iran's fingerprints are all over this."

The United States responded to these groups on October 26, launching air strikes in Syria targeting infrastructure used by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and its proxies. The strikes targeted a weapons and ammunition storage facility in Albukamal near the border between Syria and Iraq. CNN reported that Iran is seeking to capitalize on the backlash over US support for Israel, and while Tehran may not explicitly direct the groups' attacks, it appears to be encouraging them.

In the context of the conflict between America and Iranian-backed militias in Syria and Iraq. The Pentagon announced that the US military launched an air strike on a weapons storage facility in eastern Syria used by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and its affiliated groups. US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said in a statement: “This precise strike, carried out by two F-15 aircraft, was aimed at self-defense, and is a response to a series of attacks against American personnel in Iraq and Syria by groups affiliated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.” ". He added: "President (Joe Biden) has no higher priority than the safety of American personnel, and he directed today's action to make clear that the United States will defend itself, its people, and its interests."
