Africans are really Backwards!! This so called bridge is a very simple structure that even the local government chancellor can handle with local contractors. At least that's what applies in normal countries.
Nothing concern Umahi with that bridge. Our level is mediocrity is dangerous to say the least.

The level of environmental degradation caused by heavy pollution generated by Hausa-Fulani settlers around that bridge contributed to the collapse of the bridge.
Something has to be done about this.
If you doubt this, go there and see things for yourself.
Why do Hausa-Fulani settlers always pollute our environment with filth?
Go to Ugwuoba and see the horrible mess they are generating there.
Why must that artisan axis of Enugu be allowed to be subjected to the kind of decades of pollution that led to the weakening of that bridge?
Someone has to take control and bring order and sanity to bear in these places.

Not sure if i agree that the settling Hausa-Fulani population in the area caused the bridge to collapse. It’s collapse is more likely as a result of age, overuse, and lack of maintenance by a federal gov’t that own the road and who are not normally interested in maintaining their road infrastructure if it’s not in Abuja or Lagos…..more so, if it’s anywhere in the south-east! We can list a lot of federal infrastructure and projects in the south-east that have been abandoned, neglected and left to rot!

That being said, i’m a bit uncomfortable with the way so many undocumented Hausa-Fulani can just enter and reside in the South-East….no questions asked in the name of ‘we’re all ‘one Nigeria’’! Given what happened to the Primate of the Methodist Church of Nigeria…when he was kidnapped in the South-East and marched through the bushes by gun/machete wielding Fulani criminals….and given the widespread cases of attacks on travellers on highways in the region by northern elements (a lot of whom may not even be Nigerian), it should worry us that their undocumented migration into the region isn’t being addressed and checkmated!

I, as with most Igbo, are kindhearted, welcoming and empathetic to the plight of others, and if our safety wasn’t being compromised by the presence of these people, a lot of whom are economic migrants or are running away from the high-spate of insecurity in their region, i’d be more than happy to accommodate them in the South-East, provided they’re documented, can be traced, and all their children of schooling age are enrolled in school! Having hordes of jobless Hausa-Fulani pouring into the South-East is not healthy and is a recipe for disaster!
