As we continue to peel back the layers of history, we are confronted with the undeniable truth that Jesus Christ, the central figure of Christianity, was in fact black. This revelation may shock some, but to those of us who have studied the evidence, it comes as no surprise. The white-washed images and depictions of a Caucasian Jesus have been used as a tool of oppression and cultural erasure for far too long. It is time to set the record straight and embrace the blackness of our Savior.

The evidence supporting Jesus' blackness is overwhelming. Let us start with the historical and geographical context of his birth. Jesus was born in Bethlehem, a city in the Middle East, which at the time was populated by people of African descent. This is further supported by the fact that Jesus was a descendant of King David, who was also black.

But beyond geography, there is scientific proof that Jesus was a black man. Recent studies have shown that the earliest representations of Jesus, found in ancient churches and catacombs, depict him as a dark-skinned individual with tightly coiled hair. These representations were created by people who actually lived during the time of Jesus, and their visual depictions should be taken as accurate.

Furthermore, the Bible itself describes Jesus as having "skin like bronze, and hair like wool" (Revelation 1:14-15). These physical descriptions fit that of a black person, not a white one. It is clear that the white-washed images of Jesus were created to fit a European narrative, not to accurately represent the true identity of our Savior.

But why does it matter if Jesus was black or white? It matters because representation matters. For centuries, the white colonial powers have used the image of a white Jesus to justify their oppression and enslavement of black people. They have perpetuated the idea that white is superior and black is inferior. By reclaiming Jesus' blackness, we are reclaiming our own identities and dismantling the oppressive systems put in place by white supremacists.

Furthermore, by acknowledging Jesus' blackness, we are also acknowledging the blackness of all the prophets and figures in the Bible. Moses, Abraham, and David were all black. This reclaims our history and roots, which have been systematically erased and replaced with a whitewashed version of Christianity.

Some may argue that the color of Jesus' skin is not important, as it is his teachings and message that truly matter. However, by erasing his blackness, we are erasing an important part of his identity and the struggles he faced as a marginalized and oppressed person. His message of love and equality is even more powerful when we acknowledge the fact that he was a black man living in a world that sought to diminish his worth.

It is time to reject the false narrative that Jesus was a white man. We must embrace the truth and proudly proclaim that Jesus was black. This is not meant to divide or diminish the importance of any other race, but rather to uplift and empower the black community. Jesus' blackness is a source of strength and resilience, and it is time for us to fully embrace it.
