At least 50 street beggars were taken off the road during a special operation.
Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr Mobolaji Ogunlende, stated this while leading” Special Rescue Operations,” launched by the ministry, in collaboration with the Lagos State Task Force, with a mission to sanitize the state of street begging in Lekki axis on Thursday.

Street begging can never be stopped under this administration. Most of the times, you are forced to part with some cash owing to the sufferings of some Nigerians. But I'm trying to get harder seeing some people supporting the daytime robbery called election in Nigeria. People are still supporting the 160 million Naira for parliamentarians under the present Nigeria. Street begging continues. I only pray that the rate of suicide reduces.

There's no major city in Nigeria that can end street begging. Even if you throw everyone in jail today more will come out tomorrow.
And it's not just about poverty, some people have taken it as a profession, even on Nairaland here.

Most of them turn out to be armed robbers, after acclimatizing with the terrain. A lot of people have been robbed while inside their cars, by those thieves who pose as beggars along Lekki express way, Marwa and Ikate axis are flashpoints.

Lagos state can enforce it, if it wants to. If they are captured placed somewhere they can do agriculture or sent back to their states, it will end.

Most of them are from the North, they said Almajiri is their pride, so they should send them home.

Fasola did "No streets for beggars". They were being arrested and sent home. Most of them do it as a hobby, some say they make minimum 3k per day.
