Governor Oborevwori Accused Of Spending Billions In Attempt To ‘Buy’ Appeal Court Judgment Punch News By Afoke Oghenetega Monday November 20, 2023. Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has been accused by the group Transparency and Accountability In Political Litigations (TAPL) of spending approximately 26 billion naira in an effort to buy an Appeal Court judgment. The group claims that the governor used former chief judge of Delta state, Roseline Bozimo, and barrister Chris Uche (SAN) to secure the judgment for himself and the Peoples Democratic Party. TAPL laments the misuse of public funds and the disregard for the wishes of the majority of Deltans. They had previously raised concerns about the state government's influence over the Delta State Governorship tribunal, alleging that the tribunal case against Ovie Omo Agege was dismissed due to bribes from former governor Ifeanyi Okowa and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. TAPL now alleges that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori plans to spend 26 billion to sway the judgment of the Delta State Governorship Appeal court in Lagos. A coordinator for TAPL exposed that the state government transported the money, in dollars, from the Government House in Asaba to Lagos, with hopes that the Appeal court will issue a judgment by the end of the month. The group claims that members of the Okowa and Sheriff Oborevwori political family boast about purchasing court judgments in favor of Sheriff Oborevwori and plan to do the same with the Appeal and Supreme court judgments. TAPL expresses concern over the waste of state resources and the government's attempts to subvert the will of the people. They call on the EFCC and ICPC to monitor judges and justices handling Delta State cases, and urge the Chief Justice of Nigeria to prevent politicians from influencing court judgments to protect the integrity of the judiciary.
