Governor Sheriff Oborevwori Accused Of Spending Billions In Attempt To ‘Buy’ Appeal Court Judgment

Monday November 20, 2023.

A group in Delta State Transparency and Accountability In Political Litigations (TAPL), has accused Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of spending almost 6 billion naira through former chief judge of Delta state Roseline Bozimo Son Bar Ebikeme Bozimo and barrister Chris Uche (SAN) to purchase an Appeal Court judgment for himself and the Peoples Democratic just to remain as a governor.

The group made the allegation in an interview with journalists in Asaba on Monday, noting that it was very sad to see how the state governor was recklessly spending public funds just to ensure that he secure judgement and illegally remains in office as the governor of Delta state against the wish of the majority of Deltans

The group had prior to the passed judgment of Delta state Governorship tribunal raised alarm that the state government was planning to influence the judgment of the governorship tribunal legal battle between Ovie Omo Agege and sheriff Oborevwori candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, and alleged then that they were going to dismissed the tribunal case against Ovie Omo Agege because the tribunal has been compromised with five to six billion by former governor Ifeanyi Okowa and the current governor. Sheriff Oborevwori. Just like a prophecy low and behold the judgement of the governorship tribunal came exactly as the group alleged.

The same group has come out again to raised alarm about underground plan by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to spend a whooping sum of 5 to 6 billion to replicate same miscarriage of judgement by the Delta state Governorship Appeal court holding in Lagos just like that of the tribunal.

According to the group through its coordinator, High Chief Kinsley Emeka alleged that the state government through its lawyers, former Chief Judge of the state. Justice Roseline Bozimo son. Bar Ebikeme Bozimo and a lawyer to the PDP presidential candidate ferried the money which was in dollars from the Government House in Asaba on Monday night to Lagos to settle justices. as they look forward to the Appeal court communicating the date and giving judgement before the end of the month.

He further revealed that members of the Okowa and Sheriff Oborevwori political family are already bragging that the state government had been “buying” all the court judgments in favour of Sheriff Oborevwori and would do the same with the Appeal and supreme court judgement till all the cases were exhausted. He noted that the director of protocol (DOP) to governor Sheriff Oborevwori. Chief Sunday Onos and some government officials were heard saying that “every court in Nigeria has a price tag”.

“It is a very sad time in the history of our state that at a time when we are witnessing so much suffering and hardship, the government is spending our resources in buying court judgments and there are people bragging about it. “It is even difficult to understand why a government that was elected by the people and claims to be serving the people, is wasting the resources of the state in courts in an attempt to subvert the will of the people,” Kingsley said.

The leader of the group revealed that already government proxies are boasting that money for Appeal and Supreme Court Justices has been sent to their middleman in order to further truncate Ovie Omo Agege case at the highest court.

“Government agents are boasting that nobody can challenge Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as he has Delta state funds under his control to frustrate and jail anybody challenging his move to remain in office against the will of majority of Deltans who's votes where manipulated “We know that this man called Sheriff Oborevwori has for the past months put Deltans in severe hunger. I am calling on the EFCC (Economic and Financial Crimes Commission) and ICPC (Independent Corrupt Practices Commission) and Other Related Offences Commission to monitor Judges and justices handling cases that border on Delta State as the government is hell-bent to waste the common patrimony of the state for vainglory,” he said.

He called on the Chief Justice of Nigeria, to take urgent measures to ensure that politicians are unable to influence court judgments so that what happened in the Delta state Governorship tribunal will not repeat itself, in order to protect the integrity of the judiciary.
