No fewer than 250,000 passengers have passed through the Chinua Achebe Airport, formerly Anambra Passenger and Cargo Airport, Umueri, since it was inaugurated for commercial operations in Dec. 2021.

Martins Nwafor, Managing Director of Chinua Achebe Airport, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Umueri on Tuesday.Nwafor said about 4,000 airlifts had passed through the airport with an average of six flights per day.

He said the first four months had low activity as it was the route building period.

He said the airport had two major flight operators using the airport on full scheduled commercial operations with a number of private operators.
The Managing Director said the Chinua Achebe Airport was ready for increased traffic during the Yuletide season, saying that services would be both day and night.Nwafor said compared with the peers of the airport and considering how young it was in the industry, the airport was faring badly

“We started operations here on Dec. 7, 2021, that is about one year and 11 months and so far, we have had 4,000 flights with about 250,000 passengers passing through this airport. We are still working to improve our services, we hope that passengers will increase and that will lead to more airline companies coming down here.

“The Chinua Achebe Airport is ready for the yuletide, our services will be available for both day and night operations and we have about 76 airport taxi operators who have been screened by the DSS, so safety of passengers is guaranteed, “ he said

Nwafor said air transport remained the most economical way to travel considering the safety, speed and comfort it gives to passenger

According to him, air transport is not elitist, when you consider the condition of our roads, the safety environment and how they affect businesses negatively, you will realise that additional cost to travel by air is far less than its numerous benefits,” he said. (NAN)

That’s Anambra data alone not to talk of the airports in Enugu, Owerri,Asaba, ebonyi now etc If the ibeno seaport is completed today for shipping in akwa ibom, igbos will turn akwa ibom into Lagos within five years

This is quite impressive.
I was one of the earliest advocates for an international airport in Anambra, and today the viability has been proven.
We need to push for full internationalization of the airport.
The economic rise and growth of the greater Onitsha metropolitan area depends on it.

Meanwhile the only viable airport in the South West is the one in Lagos, our national heritage. But in the East at least three airports are viable. Imagine Anambra airport that was built just a year ago is already more viable than Ibadan airport built since 1960 grin grin

This is a pure waste of resources to build airport that cannot justify its purpose

Imagine

4,000 flights in 23 months
meaning 23 months multiply by 30 days in a month equal 690 days
4,000 divided by 690 will be equal to an average of 6 airplanes per day.

250,000 passengers is equivalent to 362 passengers per day hence this means under performance by the airport whose personnel is more than the passengers in a month.
Government should stop wasteful spending and invest in agriculture to turn AROUND THE FATE OF THE COUNTRY.

Your analysis is born of jealously and hate.
You are talking about an airport that was commissioned just a couple of years ago.
And of course you forget the wicked and evil Nigerian factor which is yet to allow international flights there.
Your advice is needed in South west, because Igbo people have decided in their hearts to relocate their businesses to South east.
That is why your people and their satanic allies are sitting down on our international airports.
But one of these days, thunder will strike their asses and force them to allow international flights into our international airports.
Ndi uchu.

You are boasting about a "county airport" in the USA, when its obvious you are not an American?

All the airports in the SAD WASTED REGION cant even compare to the Anambra airport in terms of human cargo and amenities. The Lagos Airport will be redundant immediately that shyt-hole disintegrates. lets see wether you will manufacture passengers for a redundant region filled with delinquent and lazy fvvvcktards.

Don't mind that hate-filled dolt.
The county airports he is bragging about, let him tell us which airport anywhere in Nigeria that compares with them.
Or is he only singling out Anambra airport for comparison with foreign airports. Why single it out?
Better yet let him tell us which first world country imposes a rogue as president.
Or runs a national policy to permanently deny a region essential infrastructure for fear that the region may secede.
Those people are all mentally deranged.

400 passengers a day and roughly 3 flights a day , this is not bad for a new airport, I believe it can be better particularly when air peace or Obike Air uses it as a hub

I think the governors of the 5 south-east states and those of Cross-River, Akwa-Ibom and Rivers should, as a matter of urgency, convene a economic summit in which they and economic/development experts from the region can discuss economic cooperation leading to the effective use of their seaports, riverports, airports, gas, tourism, industrial and commercial potentials! The ultimate aim should be to try and rekindle that economic traction and can-do spirit that once saw the region become one of the fastest growing economies in the world during the Dr M I Okpara years! There have been a lot of distractions (both self-made and engineered from outside) that have made us take our eyes off the ball and brought us to the sorry state we find ourselves in today!
