It is not necessarily staged even if the one stabbing him was white. Derek Chaivin was one self-entitled arrogant b@stard. He would not care less if Floyd was white or hispanic instead of black. So, the worst thing one can do in prison is to be arrogant. Other inmates quickly teach him what his place in that society is.

That would make him safer but even PC (protective custody) is not a 100% guarantee of safety. Someone delivers the food. Someone does the laundry, etc. So it's not hard to imagine harming him there. Maybe not stab him, but drop cyanide in his food or something.
