...Hon. Charity Aiguobarueghian moves a motion for the re-introduction of monthly environment sanitation.

The Majority Leader, Edo State House of Assembly and Member representing Ovia North-East One, Constituency, Hon.(Barr.) Charity Iguodala Aiguobarueghian today moved a motion for the reintroduction of the monthly environment sanitation and effective waste management system in the State, the motion which was seconded by Member representing Orhionmwon 2, constituency, Hon. Bright Iyamu, while highlighting the importance of the motion, the Majority Leader went back to the memory lane of how the Edo use to be described as "Edo Nimose" because of the cleanliness culture it used to maintained, he also reminded the House, on how the early European explorers described the city of Benin, when they visited, the Majority Leader reiterated how they classified Benin City as one of the most beautiful and best planned cities in the world, making them to named it "the Great City of Benin".

He highlighted that sequel to the past analogy, Edo residents strictly complied with the environmental sanitation regulation policy, which ensured that all the residents in the state participate, thereby making the state cleaned especially the Benin City.

He noted that all efforts put in place by past administrations to revive the system failed, leading to the indiscriminate dumping of refuse on drainages and waterways blockages across the state, Barr. Aiguobarueghian prayed that the motion should be passed, for the good of the people of the State.

Hon. Uyi Omosigho representating Oredo East, Hon. Isibor Ideh, representative Esan North-East 1, Constituency, Hon. Bright Iyamu representing Orhionmwon 2, Constituency who spoke in favour and support of the motion lauded the motion and described it as timely, on his part, the Speaker, Right. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku who expressed his delight over the motion, said the debate should not be over flogged because, the motion was a healthy one, hence the House must do the needful.

The House later unanimously adopted the motion and passed its resolutions that;

1. The Edo State Government is hereby called upon to re-introduce the monthly environmental sanitation exercise from 7:00 am to 10:00 am on every last Saturday of the month, across the 18 Local Government Councils in Edo State.

2. The 18 Local Government Councils are called upon to wake up to their mandate by putting in place measures to effectively monitor and manage the desilting of the drainages and waterways in the Benin metropolis, and all Local Government Council Headquarters in Edo State.

3. The vehicles and materials for execution of waste must be provided by Councils across the State to avert revision of waste to the drains, the Chairmen of Local Government Council Areas in Edo State should invoke and apply all existing sanctions on culprits found to have routed their residential waste disposal pipes into the major water drainages/gutters in their streets and environments; and

4. The Edo State Waste Management Board is hereby mandated to acquire Waste Recycling Bins to tackle the menace of disposable plastic containers and cellophane materials from blocking drainages across the State.

The Speaker on his final note, mandated the Clerk of the House to send copies of the resolution to the concerned appropriate authorities.
