When filled Gas cylinders are transported in their numbers, these nets prevent sparks that could arise due to metal to metal collision thus preventing explosion

Safety: The net or cage helps prevent the cylinder from falling over or rolling, which could cause accidents and potentially lead to gas leaks or explosions. Stability: It provides stability to the cylinder, reducing the risk of it being knocked over or damaged during transport or handling

Gas Cylinder Protection Net is used to prevent scratches and breakage caused by impacts during the manufacturing, storage, and transportation of health, industrial, LPG, fire, and food tubes.

Electrostatic Induction Discharge

Have you ever observed that when you touch some surface like your hairs or curtains or items or people's body, it would shock you..... especially during harmattan or dry weather ??

Well is because of static electric charges that has accumulated on the surface of the object.

Now it is very dangerous for such static energy to accumulate on a highly flammable gas or objects, such as gas cylinders or tankers.

Therefore that nets helps absorb and discharges those currents, when a tanker is parked for a while, they tie a chain from the body of the tanker to the ground to for same discharge reason

Oga how will net absorb static charge?

Where it be discherged to after absorption?

If static charge is a concern, the fact that the cylinder is touching the ground, it will discharge it without the net.

Like the case of a truck, the tire isn't a conductor so they used chain to sent the charges to the ground.

🔥False! 🔥Pants on Fire 🔥

It appears you also skipped that same Physics classes you are accusing others of.

Electro-static charges only builds up on poor conducting surfaces. In fact, Electro static charges are simply imbalance between positive and negative charges on the surface of an object and this is usually due to the poor or lack of conductivity of that surface.

Metals are good conductors therefore would not store electrostatic charges, rather those charges would constantly find their way spread throughout the metal and conducted away to ground.

Lastly, a net will not prevent the build up of electrostatic charges on any surface, a net being a poor conductor itself would lead to more electrostatic charges build up, the only means of dislodging electrostatic charges is by grounding the material.

That is why as you indicated when you touched a material that is electrostatically charged, there is a spark, the reason is simple, because your body presented a potential difference to the surface where those charges are building up and the surface reacted to rebalance the charges by either send some to you or conducting them through you to the ground.

The net are obviously place there to reduce friction when these cylinders are transported in bulk and placed one on top of the other. @randal

Re: Can Anyone Explain Why Gas Cylinder Comes With A Net by justmondris: 3:07pm On Dec 03, 2023
Copied:

It serves as an insulator or cushion to avoid the knocking together of two or more gas cylinders as they are transported. Impact with other cylinders during transportation can cause a spark. This is protection against such incidents.

For more reasons, please continue reading:

1. Enhanced Safety

The primary purpose of the net on a gas cylinder is to prevent potential accidents and minimise risks. Gas cylinders are typically made of metal, and their surfaces can be slippery, especially when handled with greasy or wet hands. The net acts as a protective barrier, providing a firm grip and preventing the cylinder from slipping out of one’s hands. This reduces the chances of dropping the cylinder, which can lead to gas leaks, explosions, or other hazardous incidents.

2. Improved Stability

Gas cylinders are designed to stand upright, but they can still be prone to toppling over due to their cylindrical shape and high centre of gravity. The net around the cylinder acts as a stabilising element by increasing its overall surface area. This helps distribute the weight evenly and prevents the cylinder from rolling or falling, particularly when placed on uneven surfaces. By ensuring stability, the net reduces the risk of accidents caused by cylinders tipping over.

3. Protection Against Damage
Gas cylinders are subject to regular handling, transportation, and storage, which can expose them to potential damage. The net provides an additional layer of protection to the cylinder’s body, shielding it from scratches, dents, or other forms of external impact. This is particularly important for cylinders used in industrial settings or during outdoor activities where they may come into contact with rough surfaces or equipment.

4. Efficient Handling and Transportation

Nets on gas cylinders facilitate easier handling and transportation. The mesh design of the net allows for a secure grip, making it more convenient to carry or move the cylinder from one place to another. This is especially beneficial when dealing with heavy or cumbersome cylinders, as the net’s ergonomic structure aids in distributing the weight evenly and reducing strain on the user’s hands and arms.

5. Visual Identification

Gas cylinders often come in different sizes, and the net can serve as a visual identifier to differentiate between them. Manufacturers use various colored nets or specific patterns to indicate the type of gas stored in the cylinder or to distinguish cylinders used for different purposes. This helps users and professionals quickly identify and select the correct cylinder for their specific needs, ensuring safe and efficient usage.

In conclusion, the inclusion of nets on gas cylinders plays a vital role in promoting safety, stability, and convenience. These simple yet effective additions enhance user handling, minimise risks of accidents, protect the cylinder from damage, and aid in visual identification. As gas cylinders continue to be a part of our daily lives, it is important to recognize and appreciate the significance of these nets in ensuring a safer and more efficient experience when working with pressurised gases.
