You think? When we are even importing toothpicks?
We produce complex items, the story of importing toothpicks should be laid to rest. If some Nigerians are still importing toothpicks, that's their business, it is not as if toothpicks were not being produced in Nigeria.
USA import many items from China, things that they themselves produce locally.

Ever since I’ve been young, Nigerians always see conference abroad as a way to either japa or build their resume where private companies and NGOs sponsor people abroad for such event. Even individuals who are climate change activist can always apply to go.

Anyone that believe the FG sponsored 1,400 people to Dubai is a stark illiterate.

It seems people don’t even know the meaning of a conference.
Keep quiet. I'm terms of party, Nigeria still has more delegates than even China. And I hope you know what parties mean

So? How do you stop a church rat from taking holy communion? Maybe they escorted Atiku back home.
But, separate fact from fiction, how many of them are funded by the FG? At least, it somehow shows that Nigerians can get visa for UAE. cry cry

Anyway, maybe after some years in your course of suffering and smiling you may have some sense on how to think outside tribe and religion.

3 things:

1. Read the list

2. Read the names and their designations (tells who they work for and who will pay for it)

3. Ask what value they bring to NG being there

Not even 133 millions.....well close to 300 millions. And have you ever thought of the massive contribution climate change is on poverty? What you dont know, you ask instead of just rushing to show you are not informed on the study. Like I said, the road to your stomach is the only issue in your head. Meanwhile, if we get involved with this issue now, the way to road to your stomach is addressed also.

At the end, APC is not different from PDP.

Never trust Nigerian politicans. When Tinubu and co were in oppositon, they were giving it to PDP back to back. Now they are in power, and they are repeating the same things PDP did

On top of an economy that is heavily in debt and worse than it was in 2012.

Anyway, Nigerians are the same. They want their side to win.

I know you are going to disagree with me...but unfortunately, even with this waste our government is putting us through, climate change is a priority.

1.The Sahara is expanding. That means that lots of farmland in the North could be lost. That means large numbers of refugees running down South. At the end, issues . Let's not forget that Lake Chad drying up, and the impact it could have on things like Boko and banditry.

2.See the Fulani herdsmen crisis? A big part is climate change. Once upon a time, the grassland extended further north than it is now. Now, the Sahara is taking over. That means that herdsmen stay longer in the south. More crisis (Note, I am not here to justify herdsmen. In my opinion, they should have long since set up modern ranches up North).

3.The rising of the atlantic ocean threatens a lot of coastal communites. Lagos has already had some issues as far back as the 1990's self.It is projected to get worse.

4.Excessive rain...mass flooding. Also, poor rain...famine.

5.If you live in the delta. ...unless you like having gas flaring all over the place, you would love cop 20...as it puts pressure on oil companies to reduce flaring. Note..oil companies, not government.

P.S Note that it does not justify the large delegation we sent to Dubai. 100 delegates could have done the job better. Then we got zoom and google meet and technology which can enable attending meetings without travelling self.

Nigeria is not gonna do a dent to climate improvement even in 30yrs!

Why you points are valid if there were no 133 million people in multidimensional poverty,
focusing on climate and doing jamboree for 1411 people to Dubai is letting the tail wag the dog!

So if you look at Nigeria's problems in order of priority and the resources available to solve them, you'd channel resources to climate change?

Dealing with the issues now could prevent poverty and crucially crisis

1.We stop the spread of the sahara....more farmland, no crisis...more food production

2.We refill Lake Chad....more fish production ....more jobs, more economic activity (Yes, there is an idea about refilling lake chad which may cost a lot, but may work)

3.We stop gas flaring, use the gas for power and sell the gas ....we get more money, and more jobs...poverty gone

4.We build things like sea breakers to stop the rise of the atlantic, and do reforestation projects....jobs (albeit temproray).

5.We do things like better agricultural practices....and plant more trees (no 4)...we get improved food production...more jobs

6.We invest more in green energy....more jobs.

Re: Nigeria’s COP28 Delegation Is Largest In Africa — And Same As China’s by ValarDoharis: 4:22pm On Dec 03, 2023
These are dealing with the effects of climate change which is expected but this climate conference is about dealing with the causes!

1) Reduction of green house gases like using renewable energy sources, driving electric cars, are far more expensive than convention power sources like fossil fuels

2) Putting the infrastructure in place to capture CO2 from the atmosphere is freaking expensive.

3) It has to be a worldwide collaboration else pollution from some parts of the world drifts to others. The developed countries with large industrial complex should fund it.

We need to focus on the immediate things that can actually pull people out of poverty

Most of you just don't read or follow the news in details.
The Nigerian govt suddenly woke up to the COP conferences as soon as they heard that the developed countries are mandated to pay developing countries a whooping $100bn annually (Climate finance) for Climate adaptability purposes.

Go and read it up. Our govt is running all around there now to make a good case for Nigeria and start having their share.
The good question should be, what happens to these monies once they're paid?

Your guess is as good as mine.

Climate change is a very gradual process that will not affect Nigeria adversely in 50yrs!

The 133 million people with multidimensional poverty is a more urgent and existential problem

You must think the developed countries are f00ls to just dish out the 100bn. They gonna release it little by little and if not appreciable use in fighting climate change, they wont release further funds.

Besides, do you need 1411 persons to prove you're taking it seriously?

While the number of delegations to the COP28 is uncalled for, I still maintain that Climate Change is a priority.
