Electoral College Should Elect President Of Nigeria A New Way Forward??? by KnowAll(m): 9:37am On Dec 04, 2023
There are about 10,000 wards in Nigeria. By having 2 representatives per ward that would give us a 20,000.00 capacity who would now vote who they want to be president electronically. That is by using their phones.

This would not only reduce the billions spent on present day INEC to bear insignificance. But would entrench a free fair election all over d country.

You will still complain because going by your calculations the north will still maintain majority and the south east will still have the least in the electoral college 😏.

The fraudulent maths used in creation of regions and states will render your suggestion ineffective.

If we are talking about government of d people for d people, the area with higher population would have leverage but would still work with other parts of Nigeria to produce a president.

Look at how Asiwaju won d APC with d delegates. That was free and fair.

I agree but with this electoral college idea, people will still complain about marginalization.
I think electoral college will only cause more division in the country.

I support!

But it should be based on each state's number of federal constituencies.

Lagos with 24 federal constituencies will have 24 votes. If you win Lagos, you get 24 electoral college votes

Kano with 24 federal constituencies will also have 24 votes. If you win Kano you get 24 electoral college votes

Etc etc

There is no monolithic North. There majority Christians in Benue,Plateau, Taraba, Nassarawa state. And about 40% Christian’s in Bauchi, Gombe, Niger and Kogi. There is no grand rule Kwara would vote d core north.

I think whoever candidate that can negotiate the best with d various stakeholders would carry d day.

We cannot throw democracy open as we all do at d moment. B4 d colonialist came deliberation of how towns can move forward was done by d oba and his chief on behalf of d people. We should go back to that system.

This one doesn't even know what an electoral college is,yet wants to advocate for it.
How can you show that level of misunderstanding of what an electoral college it?
Do some of you even bother to read and research, even if it's just dictionary meaning of something before opening threads about it?
The level of ignorance and creation of ill-informed threads on nland is becoming alarming to be honest.

Supported. In addition, rotation of presidency across the 6 geopolitical zones should be enshrined in the constitution. Preference should be given to zones that have not produced president since 1999. It should also be a single term presidency of 5 years.

The trillions of Naira used to organise presidential elections since 1999 should have been used to bridge the infrastructural deficit. Nigerian elections as presently done can never produce the will of the people. So instead of wasting trillions on elections why not allow the foolish wise men to elect someone for us.

After the last election, if electoral college was to vote, Tinubu will still win. Am I not right?

Forget rotating presidency. U must be smart enough to negotiate yourself to positions.

Let us revisit this idea. Where the final people voting for our president would not be more than 10,000 individuals. This would cut down the cost of elections not only in Nigeria but in Africa. It would also be difficult to rig.
